Currently Prototyping Paper Birds

I spent a big chunk of yesterday prototyping some three-dimensional paper birds.

I am planning to cut some out of white paper and experiment with different surface design techniques on them.  Then once I have a menagerie of lovely birds, I'm going to climb a ladder and hang them from my ceiling!

I really enjoy this kind of contemplative making.  Experimenting.  Trying new things.  Learning what works and what doesn't.  Problem solving is my happy place.  And that's a lucky thing since most art making is just solving problem after problem!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Very well said, “art making is just solving problem after problem”. That is how sewing and creating a project is “solving problem after problem”. And those birds, oh yeah, I will be making a couple of those for my “Treasure Room”. Fun stuff!

  • I hope that since you said “prototyping”, it means that you plan to make these designs available for sale (and not just for Scan & Cut). As someone who never outgrew being 5 years old when it comes to such projects, I’d love to purchase patterns & instructions to make these charming creatures for home, family and friends.

  • What a wonderful idea! I’m going to use it for a project myself. Right now teaching my granddaughter how to gelli print via zoom and this is just perfect.

  • I would love the pattern for those. I would like to make them for my senior friends that have been in their homes alone for so long due to fear of Covid.

  • I love those!! The last time I was in Hanalei Bay in Kauai I found a banner of alternating swallows and hearts. It is flat but is cut from beautiful handmade paper. It is machine sewn with red thread which keeps the whole banner together. Some areas have glitter that is part of the paper. My daycare children love it so I will keep it up all year.
