Hello, friends! Today is my birthday…
Opening birthday presents circa 1984. My brother is in the red overalls.
…so it seemed like the perfect time to share a little bit about life around here right now:
I feel like 2020 was a year to survive. I'm hoping 2021 can be a year to thrive. Or at least focus on taking care of my own needs. I shared this poem to instagram and facebook last week and it really resonates with me in my current season of life:
I also ordered new business cards and stickers because it felt like time for a refresh!
I recently bought a Japanese Screw Punch and I love it.
I don't know what took me so long. Well, I do know. It's an expensive tool and I wondered if it was "worth it." But, I've been teaching so much bookbinding that it was definitely time to upgrade to some "real" bookbinding tools. I purchased mine from a shop in Brooklyn called Talas. I have no affiliation with them, but I did some internet research and their name kept coming up as an excellent purveyor of bookbinding goods. I bought a few things from them and it all arrived quickly and in good condition.
He is thriving! Fourteen-months old and wearing 4T clothes.
We try to take him outside every day, but it has been below freezing lately and even in a snowsuit, it's pretty brutal for a little one. So, we do a lot of looking out the window and take some trips to Grandma's house for a new environment! (Because of COVID we try not to take him to any indoor spaces including usual cold-day-with-a-little-kid spots like malls, libraries, museums, the grocery store, etc.) I have to imagine that he's bored of our house. I know I am. 😉
Current art crush?
Bisa Butler. I feel like I've fan girled about Bisa Butler before, but I did a quick blog search and apparently I haven't done it here yet! Bisa Butler is a fiber artist. She makes AMAZING quilts. I loved THIS podcast interview she did last year. Here's a peek at some of her fabulous work:
Her work is amazing. Some day, after COVID, I hope to visit a museum or gallery and see her work in person. I can't even imagine what it would be like to sit in front of these massive quilts and see all of that texture and detail in person. Swoon!
