Embellished Hot Glue Envelope Seals

I am obsessed with this idea: hot glue envelope seals with stuff embedded in the glue.  What am I talking about?  Check it out:

I put together a tutorial video for you:

If you look through your stash of scraps and bits, I'll bet that you can find dozens of other cool ideas for stuff to embed and ways to get fancy with hot glue and blank wax seal stamps.  I'm thinking: mica powder, dried flowers, scraps of thread and ribbon, beads, buttons, dried paint…what am I missing?

Also: You can do this on a glass mat or silicone mat so that the "seals" are free standing bits. This would allow you to use them as embellishments, anywhere you'd like!

I hope you think this idea is as cool as I do!  Thanks for stopping by!

  • Great idea for embellishments, but please don’t try to send them through the mail. These could jam up automatic mail sorting equipment.

  • If you watch the video, you’ll note that I mention that these will require extra postage because they can’t go through the automatic mail sorting equipment. So, yes, please send them through the mail! Just be aware of the extra postage required, as with any dimensional envelope seal.

  • Love this idea! Is there something I could substitute for the metal stamps? Something from around the house that would press down th glue but then release?

  • What did you miss? Not everyone will watch the video! Please edit to make it plain that not only extra postage is
necessary, but threads and ribbons and everything else need to be firmly embedded. Cool idea, yes, but TROUBLE!

  • I tried several things but getting a smooth enough surface was difficult and didn’t release well, but we found a blank stamp kit at Michael’s and it was very inexpensive.
