I did some more ice dyeing this week! But this time I didn't do any fancy folding or tying, I simply scrunched up the fabric. Check out my scrunch results:
I did the t-shirts in two batches and each time I put a piece of fabric underneath the rack to "catch" the excess dye. These are the pieces of fabric that I scrunched up under the t-shirts:
There are some really lovely details in there. But I'm not sure if I like the scrunch quite as much as the folding and tying…but it could also be because I tried to be more restrained and use fewer colors. Clearly I'm going to have to keep experimenting! The bad news is that I am out of white fabric and white t-shirts. So…I'm just patiently waiting for some new white goods to arrive in the mail.
Thanks for stopping by!

I think these are gorgeous! Back in the day I had a hippie phase and I tie-dyed so many clothes that I’m totally over that look. But these have a gentle, painterly look that would work really well for me now, combined with simple linen pieces. Hmm. Maybe I need to give this technique a go!

The material turned out beautiful. I want to see a simple dress or top made
from the material. It makes me ‘SMILE’

I’m living vicariously through you. I love the scrunch in the fabrics. The patterns are amazing. I think I like the folds in the t shirts. The colors are all beautiful.
You are amazing at keeping your art going!

I actually like the fabrics more the the t-shirt (seems as though it didn’t take much dye). I love the scrunched look – I’ve hand dyed my clothes for almost two decades and love the subtle look of a one color loosely scrunched or even laid almost flat with subtle scrunches in a plastic tote. But I prefer low-key patterns to wear (personal preference). The beauty of dying your own clothes is that you can make what causes your heart to sing :). So play and piddle until you find what is just right for you 🙂
