Two Collages I Don’t Really Like

The YouTube Channel Member Livestream is tomorrow (Thursday) at 1pm EST.  Just like my free stencil livestream, it's an hour packed with inspiration and instructions!  It's $4.99/month to join and you get immediate access to all previous videos as well.  Hope you'll become a member!  Now, onto today's post:

Recently I made two collages.  I don't really like either of them.  And that's okay.

It's okay because:

I enjoyed making them.  Art making isn't just about the product.  For me, the process has to be enjoyable, or what's the point in doing it?

I learned some things. I'm a more is more girl, but I think that both of these collages would benefit from some white space.  All of that pattern needs some room to breathe.

I can always cut them down.  One of the coolest art tricks, is to take something big that doesn't work and cut it down to something smaller, like so:

For some reason, this smaller version — even with all of its busy-ness — works better for me than the large square.  It's still not quite right, but perhaps the next collage will be!  And if not, I'll just roll these art pieces into a junque journal and give them new life!

I truly believe that you have to keep churning out work — good and bad — in order to improve.  There is no shortcut to success.  I don't often show my "bad" work here on the blog — partially because I'm quite prolific so I always have lots of other stuff to share, and partially because it doesn't feel good to show work you don't love.  It feels vulnerable.  But I think it's important to say: I churn out tons and tons and tons of terrible art.  Tons.  And that's okay.

Thanks for stopping by!
