You may recall that last year I took the popular art challenge #inktober and altered it slightly into #printinktober.
But, in case you don't recall, #inktober is a month-long challenge that was started by illustrator and cartoonist Jake Parker. In essentials, you are encouraged to create an ink drawing each day in October. Here's a video about it that he put together:
Each year he releases a series of prompts, which you are welcome to adhere to or not. This is the list of prompts for this year:
I’ve participated in the #inktober challenge twice before – both times focusing on lettering and not adhering to any prompts. See a blog post about it from 2014, and from 2015.
I like to use challenges to help me towards personal art goals. At the time, I wanted to improve my lettering skills. Creating a piece of lettering every single day for 31 days definitely made me faster and better at lettering.
Last year I decided to create a new spin on the challenge and created #PrintInktober. I used printing ink and stamping ink rather than drawing ink, but my goal was to create a stamped print every day of October. The goal was to get my stamps out of storage and into play! I used a mixture of hand carved stamps…
This year I'll be doing it again and posting on instagram under the hashtag #printinktober and if you’d like to play along, you are welcome to!
GUIDELINES:
- Create and post one print each day in October. (But remember: nobody cares if you don't actually do it every day. 1 day is better than none!)
- Use the hashtag #printinktober when you post.
- Any stamp can be used – foam, wood, silicone, rubber, hand carved, lino, whatever you want!
- Any ink can be used – screenprinting ink, marker ink, stamping ink, printing ink, etc.
- You can use the official inktober prompts, if you'd like. Or not.
- Have fun and don’t worry if you miss a day (or more). The point of the challenge is to get those stamps out of storage and into use!!
I hope you'll join me! I put together a cute little video about the challenge:
Thanks for stopping by!

Julie you are amazing. I don’t know where you find the time to do all of this and with the baby coming in November. I would think each ink you do during October would be a countdown to the big day!
