TitleCard-wm
This is a super fun and easy project to do and a wonderful gift to give!  I found the idea on instagram via 5.min.crafts.  Essentially, the cubes flip to reveal the various images:

2-wm
2-wm
2-wm
2-wm
While I was making it, I struggled a lot.  The instructions in the 5.min.crafts video are a bit on the light side.  I made a bunch of mistakes along the way.  BUT, when it finally turned out, I fell in love with it.  AND, I figured I'd make a detailed instructional video so that you could make one for yourself quickly and easily and avoid all of the mistakes that I made!  Yay!

Watch the video to see the blocks in action (much better than still photos) and to learn how to make one yourself:

Supplies:

In the video I used stamped images instead of photos.  You could also use patterned paper or quotes.  You could do this for a birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day, an anniversary, or just for fun!

I hope you'll give this project a try!

Happy Valentine's Day!

  • Julie, I love this craft and have several ideas for implementing it.
I am very interested to know what kind of stamping ink you used. The colors are great.

  • What if you made a cutting template in SCAN N Cut, of the straight line, the Cross and the “H” out of clear vinyl so you could place the template over the photos or whatever image you have used to cover the blocks. It would make cutting mistakes less apt to happen wouldn’t it? I think I will try it. this looks like such a fun craft. Also, if using photos, could you adhere clear stick on vinyl before attaching them to the wooden cubes. That might protect the paper/whatever so they could be handled better.
Loved your better explanations. That is what makes you such a good teacher.

  • Don’t cut the tape! Don’t cut the tape!! Haha – point driven home 🙂
I love that you figured out all the “gotchas” to this project and were able to explain how to do it, paying extra attention to the pitfalls.
I might make one with our wedding photos. Ooh – or maybe I’ll make one for my brother’s birthday! Thanks for the tutorial Julie!

  • Julie, I started this and it is working out great. I just have one question. Are there some blocks that do not have photos on them? Mine came out that way. Thanks.

  • I have some suggestions for making the photo cubes. One mistake I made, is I used a reposition able adhesive cartridge in my Xyron. Not a good idea, as the picture seems to want to move/tear a bit when you are cutting the blocks apart. It could have something to do with the paper too, but, I then started over and used the permanent adhesive cartridge in the Xyron machine with the same paper and had no problem. Another thing is I tried one of the suggestions one of your other fans had about using clear vinyl on top of the pictures or whatever you are putting on your cube. It worked fantastic for me when I used Fellowes Self Adhesive Peel and Seal sheets. Thank you for the video you made showing us how to make these.
