Last week I shared photos from a lovely cemetery in Cadaqués, Spain. Today I thought I'd share some other photos from our visit there.
Some things that artistically inspired me:
- Street Art. Lots of it.
- The mix of ancient and modern. Really old (think 16th Century) buildings with TV antennas. Creates a neat visual contrast.
- Foreign-to-me flora. I find nature very inspiring and it's so great to be able to see different plants than the ones I'm used to.
- Architecture. From stacked stone walls to smooth white houses with red roofs and blue accents, I found so much architecture I wanted to pay attention to. Especially doors.
Take a peek through the photos and see if something might inspire your next creation!
What you see in the photo above is a street. That's a street! That cliff face is a street! Just amazing! It almost looks like bark to me.
Does anyone else see a face in this next photo?
The two giant silver heads in the photo below are part of Dali's House.
How will this inspiration find its way into my work? Well, that's the million dollar question isn't it? I don't really know yet, but I suspect:
- Colors
- Shapes
- Textures
- Patterns
You know, whenever anybody says they don't know what to create I kind of stare at them in disbelief. I certainly go through phases where I hate everything I make and feel like a total failure and feel creatively blocked. But I never run out of things I want to try because *inspiration is all around us.* Seriously. Every single one of these photos (even the one where I'm eating ice cream) has something of artistic value to take away from it. The fun part — and the part that makes each of us unique — is what we take away and how we use it.
So, what are you taking today? And how are you going to use it?
Thanks for stopping by!

Julie- It was such a pleasure to see all of your photos from Cadaques. This was one of my most favorite towns that I had traveled to. The architecture, hills, people and ocean were so inspiring. Your photos helped to re-live those wonderful memories
Can’t wait to see what you create!

Julie, I thought my head would explode!
First I thought, I love those blue doors, no wait, look at all the prickly pears ( cactus pear or figorina in Italian), no wait, look at the lion coming down the side of the building, etc. it went like that for every picture!
Do you have any idea why people were writing on the cactus leaves? I found that kind of odd.
What an amazing trip you had! I can’t wait to see what inspires you! I have to settle my mind down first to see what I do with it.

I just can’t…CANNOT…imagine the sensory overload. The street/cliff…bright blue doors…colorful street art…cacti with writing…beaches…florals… How can you take it all in? Those flowers – I actually blurted out “how is that possible?” The amazing doors…do you think it’s similar to a status statement…look what I’ve done with my entry? Loved the note on the door handle “this is not Dali’s house” …in English… I almost heard “stupid tourists”. I wonder how many people tried to walk into their house. Forgive my blathering…your pictures are amazing. I can’t even imagine how inspiring it was, your photos make me want to run and make something. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring all of us. It looked like you had a great time.

It must have been interesting to be in the Catalonia region, just a month or so before the attempted independence vote. I saw a number of Catalonia flags in your photos. Thanks for sharing.

A really wonderful post. What struck me (like the other commenters) were the strikingly white walls against the bright blue of the shutters and doors, but I loved all the photos – the cliff as a street was so awesome! Despite all the beautiful photos, my favorite was how you ended the post – it made it much more than just a travelogue…
