If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek. Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.
As you know, most of my art journal pages feature copious journaling. I love writing in my journal. It's an important part of my personal sanity.
That said, I do go through phases where I'm more interested in filling pages with color and pattern than with words. These pages reflect one of those phases.
There is so much going on on this page. So much pattern. I love it! It's a lot of hand carved stamps and a bit of stenciling.
All of these prints are from hand carved stamps that I made for Carve December.
I had painted the eye on a piece of deli paper as a demo in a class I taught. I glued it into my journal and then wanted to find a way to tell a story. So, I stenciled the bird above it and now I call this page: Bird Getting Eyeball. ;)
This is a page I had planned to cover up. It was junque I bound into the journal.
But, when it came time to paint over this page, I just couldn't do it!
The only thing I added to this spread ending up being a few orange hash marks with a thermofax screen — mostly because I was testing the screen.
I try not to make my art journal a stressful place. I may have made plans, but I get rid of them. Things happen. Things change. I like to be kind to myself when I create in my art journal and focus on what's interesting to me right at that moment. "Should" as in "I should do xyz" is not a word that enters my art journal practice. If it does, I banish it immediately. I'm all id when it comes to art journaling.
I unabashedly love this page. I've made similar pages in the past, but this one just sings to me — the colors, the patterns, those big eyes, the background — I love it all!
This text was created with my Art Foamies alphabet stamps!
More hand carved stamps hiding out in the background of this face!
This next page is kind of back-to-business, with plenty of journaling on the right side.
A lot of the wonderful texture in her face was done with oil pastels.
It's possible that I overuse these little dash marks. It's also possible that I don't care. ;)
Hope you enjoyed this peek into my art journal. I love sharing my pages with you!
Thanks for stopping by!

I really miss your quick videos. I would love to see you doing art journal every day videos. Probably too much for you in your busy life. I have done 30 days of journaling and 30 days in your junque journal and I often watch them again for inspiration

Love the patterning and the images on top. So visually yummy! What stencil or stamp did you use for the red woman who allows some of your background to show through. Thanks for sharing. Love your art and sharing your process with your audience.

I’d love to attend one or more of your classes live.
Any chance you are coming to the Midwest?
Missing you in Iowa.
