Summer Stencil Techniques with Suzanne: Franken Tag

Here we are at week five of the #RANZAmade series.  Today I’ll take you through the Franken Tag technique, using two tags at once.  Spray paint will be the main medium for a change and no makeup wedges!  Let’s go!

Spray paint and tags are the real necessities needed, for this.  I used a bit of tape on the stencil just to align a little bit, but, if you want to live on the wild side, rock on with your bad self!

Lay your stencil on top of your tag.  I added the tape as shown, that lines up with the top of the tag.  You’ll want your second tag at the ready as well.

When using spray paint indoors, make sure to use a mask and ventilate. Deli paper was used under the tag to catch the excess.  I sprayed about 8 inches away, and sprayed liberally.  You’ll see why in the next step!

Oooh pretty!  It looks so cool as is but, we’re going to jump on the next tag fast before the paint dries.

Now flip the wet side onto your second tag.  This is where I tried to line up the tape with the top of the second tag.  It’s tricky when you have to move fast, though. To get a nice adhesion pat down with a rag or towel, unless you want colorful hands (or in my case MORE colorful)!

The reverse looks just as awesome!  With the two tags side by side, you can see the almost alignment.

Pick one to cut in half.  This part I didn’t measure, I decided to let my scissors loose!

A couple of drops of fluid matte medium was the adhesive of choice.  It allowed me to move the half a little before it really stuck.

You can see I tried to line up the design a bit.  Not perfect, but it worked out to be a pretty fun way to make a Franken Tag!

Have you ever cut up a tag or art to turn it into a new monster of sorts?  The process surprised me.  I am not a huge spray paint user, but this technique had me adding some to my wish list.  The spray paint, I assumed, was going to dry too fast make this work, but nope!  Will you be reaching for some supplies you haven’t used in a while or bought and never tried at all?  I am guilty of reaching for the same supplies all the time.  I hope you enjoyed this technique and will join me for one last technique next week.
