Art Journal Every Day: End of November 2016

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleveryday

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

I work on my art journal pages in bits and pieces.  It is very rare for me to sit down and create an entire art journal spread from start-to-finish.

Rather, I poke around from page to page in my journal doing whatever seems interesting to me at the moment.  Some days I simply add writing.  Other days I draw or stamp or color.  It just depends on my mood.

Take a peek at some pages that came together over time:

My gold pen obsession continues!

As you know, I love to find a home for "art orphans" in my art journal.  This stamped and embossed tag (hand carved stamp, by the way) was something I made ages ago and threw into my box of "art stuff."  I'm so glad that it finally found a home in my art journal!

I used a white pen and my beloved Moonlight pens to draw on a black background.

2-FlowersMoveOn-wm

This page features the Balzer Designs Water Lilly stencil (in two sizes — and sadly no longer sold — but you can get my Water Lilly stamp still).

You can see, in the photo above, the same thing happens to me that happens to everyone: leak through from other pages that sticks and then rips the paper.  It used to flip me out. These days I'm more relaxed about it.  It happens.  Move on.

2-detail-edge-wm

This page features an uneven edge.  One of my favorite features of the Junque Journal!

Above, you can see that uneven page edge from the other side.

This page features a number of charming art orphans all collaged together:

The tag above was featured in my book, Carve Stamp Play.  I'm delighted that it found a home front and center on this art journal page!

One of the many things I like about my Art Foamies is that you can really squish them so that you can cross that center seam in your art journal!

So, there you have it!  A peek into my layered pages created over time.  Does this method of working appeal to you?  I'd love to know!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I am learning, from you, that I can create something that doesn’t need an entire page right away. I can play and fuss and cut etc. and put it away. Later it can find a home page where other creations are happy together.

  • I love seeing the process. I too start a page and then come back to them. My mood changes throughout the day. Some days I feel like writing, collaging or just making background pages.

  • Enjoying the Art Journal journey.
Maybe your water lily stencil can be re-issued? In the meantime, off to select more Foamies to add to my collection. Want to buy them all, always hard to decide.
