Adventures in Arting Podcast: Tales from the Road & New Adventures Ahead

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Adventures in Arting Podcast

Today's podcast features a conversation about my recent travels, teaching, and some new adventures.

If you do not see the podcast player above, please click on this link.  You can listen to a podcast anywhere and at any time.  It is a recording that is available to you whenever you'd like to listen.  If you'd like to download it to your iTunes library, click here.  You can also pause and rewind or fast forward as you desire.  I like to listen to podcasts while I'm making art.  It's a little like hanging out with friends while you art.

Here are some photos from the surface design class I taught for Quilters Connection

And here is Carol Anne Grotrian talking to us about how to critique quilts.

The two quilts in the photo are both hers — two variations on the same idea, one more successful than the other.

During the Workshop, there was a team of women stretching all the Ruby Red Quilts onto canvases.  You can see my little owl on the table:

Most of the quilts had a red background, so I'm thinking my white-on-white background is going to pop in the big group of them.  I'm super excited to see them all together!

As a side note, the guild is hosting a two-day class this weekend that Frances Holliday Alford is teaching and there are still spots available.  You don't have to be a guild member to sign up.  More info HERE.

Last but not least, I mention "Bullet Journaling" in the podcast.  If you don't know what that is, this a great article all about it: WTF is a Bullet Journal & Why Should You Start One?  An Explainer.

Thanks for stopping by!

  • I agree with Mom… throw in one new thing with each tv demo… because your base can help you sell the machine… think in terms of networking, word of mouth, etc. These are powerful marketing mechanisms too. And Aesthetics sells… I always fall for the beautiful well made diy card and I become very interested in the items used. And companies could sell even more product if they always had a designer using their supplies… seems obvious, but it is confusing as to what the manufacturer was thinking when the product does not sell, and you realize you cannot find finished exammples anywhere on the internet.

  • I was sleepily watching your Instagram story last night before bed and was surprised when you started showing your bullet journal, and then got the scoop on it while listening to the podcast this morning. I’m using a traveler’s notebook right now to be my everything book, but am choosing to keep it for everything *except* my day job. When I’m not at work, I want to think of other things. (I know your work life is much different.) So far this year, I’ve put in stuff from social media, cartoons from my New Yorker page-a-day calendar, quotes from books I’m reading, lists of podcasts I’ve listened to, what I’m watching, etc.

  • Glad you shared about Bullet Journals. I love mine. I use it as a daily journal. I pay no attention to others journals.I mainly use it to put pieces of paper I want to keep.
I too play with fabric even though I don’t quilt. Well, I crazy quilt, but that barely counts. I love how fabric feels and I love color. I hate the precision of “real” quilts.
