Hey you guys! It snowed yesterday. First time that the snow really stuck to the ground, but it was gone into a slushy mess by the afternoon. Personally, I'm dreaming of a white Christmas — as they say. But, I've got one more work trip before the year is over, so I'm ready for all that snow after I get back home safe and sound. ;)
Today, I'm sharing some art-related links that I think you'll love.
Instagramps: Do yourself a favor and press play on the video on this page. It's a beautiful story about how drawing has connected a grandpa to his grandkids and the internet and his whole family to each other and the world. Two thumbs up. An adorable story about the power of art.
To Be Happier: Do One Creative Thing Every Day: Vindicated! This article shares a scientific study that indicates that people are happier with themselves when they engage in a creative activity each and every day. In my opinion (now backed by fact), creativity isn't an indulgence. It's a choice we each make for our health — just like brushing our teeth each day. So, go and get happy!
Yarn Bombing Hits the High Street: A profile of a yarn bombing artist who works with lots of brands on huge ad campaigns.
Water Transfer Printing: This video totally reminds me of nail polish water transfer printing. Both methods are very similar. Though, obviously, the nail polish version is much more accessible to most of us. Let me know if you've ever tried the nail polish technique. I'm wondering how it went!
New Dior Lady Art Bags: You guys! It's time for us to paint some fancy purses. Check out these (expensive) limited edition collaborations with a variety of artists. Do I sound like a jerk if I say, I think we can do better? ;)
New Ways of Seeing: I am super duper beyond excited for this video series to start. Episode one discusses how art invented a new way of seeing the world. “Art is about changing what we see in our everyday lives and representing it in such a way that it gives us hope.”
I'm feeling very filled with happiness and joy lately. So many articles I see these days are about the power of art to connect and heal and transform. On a personal level, I can attest to that power, as I'm sure many of you can too!
Happy creating! And thanks for stopping by!

I was fascinated by the water transfer video. I enjoy watching inked paper being created and this was just kicking it up in a new way. I look forward to the next episodes of the New Way of Seeing. Yes, get some bags and start painting. You’ve already done shoes and clothes.

Julie,
The thing I noticed most about the Dior bags? ALL the designers are MEN!!! What’s with that?? We can definitely do better (and already do all the time with our art.)
A great post with some truly nifty links. Thanks ;-} Susan

Instagramps made me smile – also made me cry as my Mum is in Australia and barely knew my kids, who are grown now. Living on different continents is not easy. Thanks for sharing these, Julie!

I, too, noticed all the “bagmen”. Just another example of men telling women what they should wear…..come on, we as women know what we want and it isn’t being dictated to by men….get out your paints, markers, etc. and create some stunning handbags….truly become “bag ladies”. It could be our one creative thing for a day.

Loved going through these links. So much fun! Have to agree, I think your designs would look better on the handbags.

So funny about the purses! I have painted two canvas camera bags (one messenger one backpack) in my version of Julie style, with stencils and art foamies. They have gotten a lot of positive response. My first thought when you posted the painted purses in your Vlog was “what the heck? Julie can do those better.”

The Dior bags – I know that you certainly can do a much better job than any of the bags shown.

Thanks for all the inspiring things you post so regularly Julie – just watching creativity happen around me also makes me happy (though I do often enjoy my very own puddle of arty mess!)

I have a Miche bag cover that I’m embarrassed to admit I even bought (it’s a giraffe pattern in red and white with black accents. I think I was sucked in by the color scheme. LOL). Anyway, I’ve thought about painting over it. I wonder if anyone would pay thousands of dollars for it when I’m done?
