How is it possible that this is only canvas #36?! I must not be counting everything because I'm pretty sure I've painted more than that. But, anyway, as I promised during yesterday's journey-of-a-painting post, here is the finished painting:

It's a bit hard to tell in photos, but the painting is wildly textured (thanks in part to all of the layers):
There are two things in this painting that I took away from my time at Golden Artist Educator Training:
(1) Use a lot of paint. It's okay.
I am stingy with my paint. It's expensive. So, I tend to put it on fairly thinly. With this painting I used up several tubes of painting just throwing it on super thick. I love the way it looks, but I wouldn't have had the courage to do that previously.
(2) Gold mica flakes are always a good idea.
I had never even heard of Golden's Gold Mica Flakes, but now I'm hooked. They add dimension and shine and texture and just oo la la!
Super excited by this new painting and I hope to continue to work in this direction!

I just wanted to add my 2 cents worth. There is something in this painting…I have to keep going back to look at it. It evokes an emotion… of, I don’t know. Something about the eyes and the way that the paint runs down,from the eyes. I know that photos can never capture the essence, the way that seeing it in real life can. Someday I would love to see this in real life.
