This project came together in two phases. First, I decided that I wanted to make stencils with my ScanNCut to decorate some cookies. But then, I was really bad at stenciling the frosting onto the cookies. So then I developed plan number two: an outer cookie stencil or cookie shield to make the stenciling a bit neater.
Watch the video for the how to:
Here are the cookies from the video:
And some of the others I made along the way:
I also used my ScanNCut cookie outline stencils with some existing stencils — clean never-before-used Balzer Designs stencils, in fact:
Have you ever tried stenciling cookies? I think I need to make some more so that I can practice my skills (and eat some more too)!
Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I am a paid spokesperson for the Brother ScanNCut. It is a machine that I love and use. All opinions and projects are my own.
P.P.S. This is the stencil material I used in the video.

The cookie mask to keep them clean was a great idea. What stencil material bro you use?

I’d love to know about the base frosting you used on the cookies before you frosted them with the stencil. What type of icing was that – and how long did it need to ‘dry’ or set so you could frost over it? It looks pretty firm the way you were touching and working with it. Also is there a trick to getting the cookies to come out so uniformly that the cookie shield works? When my cousins and I do cut cookies like that some seem to spread and cook differently so there is some variation to the size once they bake. I’m not a master baker, obviously so I’m wondering about that. But if I can solve that – my cousins would be super impressed if I can do cookies like this for our annual holiday ‘cookie day’ that we do! Thanks for sharing. I would never have thought of that cookie shield. I have a Silhouette Cameo but I’m sure I can get the same effect with that machine.

Love the eye cookies and I don’t bake much so no, I have never used a stencil for baking.
