I've got another new paint to share! I was at the hardware store the other day and I just couldn't resist the super cheap paint samples. I bought three of the Valspar Paint samples to try out.
Watch the video for my thoughts:
Have you tried using Valspar paint for your artistic endeavors? What did you think?
Thanks for stopping by!

Wow- so surprised to see your video on Valspar paint samples. I found these samples sizes myself a couple of months ago. I have to admit I was a bit suspicious about the quality of these house paints to use for painting on a canvas. But so far they have worked out just fine. They tend to be a bit flat so I use them more on the bottom layers of my paintings and then finish up with the better quality artists paints. One great thing is that the paint supply store will color mix your samples to any color you would like!

I think these are a little expensive and not exactly of the same quality of the gallon wall paint, so they do not last as well. But they can be mixed to make chalk paints and might be okay for a small project. You can find the big cans pre-mixed with primer, too. I love Valspar, I learned to paint indoor and outdoor projects long before I ever learned to paint in a journal, my Dad was great about equipping me with this skill.

thank you for this information! I love it that you can get so many variations in color! I am definitely going to try this.

Every time I go into those home improvement stores I look at those lovely little jars and wondered how they would work. Thanks for the demo.

House paint is OK for ephemeral projects, but I wouldn’t use them for “fine” art stuff–for that, artist quality is essential!

I use them as a ground on my journal pages instead of gesso…I have been told some use them for the purpose on canvas as well but I do not know enough about them to recommend that.

I mixed a Valspar paint sample with fabric medium and painted the back and seat of an old office chair. Then I spray painted the plastic parts. (You have to take it apart first of course). Anyway, it looks great and now matches the other furniture in my massage room where I work as a massage therapist. I’m thinking if trying it on my patio cushions. Check out Pinterest for directions.
