I continue to find photos from my Australia trip that I meant to share, but somehow didn't. One of the coolest places that I visited in Australia was the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens. It reminded me a lot of Central Park in New York City — beautiful green park in the middle of a big vibrant city; an oasis of sorts. And yet, at the same time, it was so foreign — so many unusual-to-me plants and plenty of giant spiders! Take a peek:
I'm pretty sure you can feel the heat in this last photo! It was pretty darn warm.
I thought I'd share these photos for two reasons:
- There's lots of pretty stuff to look at.
- There's lots of stuff to draw.
Most of the time I draw the flowers and leaves and trees that I see around me. I think a lot of people are like that. This post is full of flora that I don't have here in New England. I'm excited to add some new shapes to my drawing repertoire.
How about you? What interests you about these images?
Thanks for stopping by!
Australia must have been an amazing trip.
What intrigues me is how many of these plants are similar to plants we have in South Florida! Whenever I long for some of the beautiful northern plants that don’t grow down here (lilacs, hostas, tulips, peonies), I think about all the awesome plants that thrive here year ’round: orchids, palms, banyans, hibiscus and a host of exotics.

Loved the photos. Thanks for sharing a different view of the world. Liked the shapes and silhouettes. Saw some plants that sort of looked familiar which reminds me that even though Australia is far away, plant life is universal just like people. We are all one. Also, liked the feather shot.

The feather on the ground called out to me.
I find them from time to time and a friend once told me that she believes that they are notes shared from loved ones who have moved on.
I must say that often when I find a neat feather I’ve been thinking of a dear one who has passed. Kinda cool.

Love the bamboo, and the trees growing so closely together. I like to capture linear images and then work on perspective, shading. The succulents would make great stencils.
It may have been hot there, but you girls look great and as though didn’t break a sweat! LOL.

Oh Julie these pictures are gorgeous. I loved it all.I agree with you one of my thoughts too was how awesome to draw out the bamboo or the five petal flower. Again I just loved your trip to Aussie Land.
I am with Sue Clarke about that feather. Awesome Sue loved your explanation and that is very true. I hope you picked it up Julie. It was waiting for you. It is the universe giving you something useful while on your life journey. Also too the birds or our flying friends are an element of air. “Messages carried on the wings of birds”.
The element of air represents communications, messages, intellect thought and ideas. Look deeper into things. You might see more than you know.
Love these pictures you are so good :.). I am still playing with my scan n cut.

I love seeing you continue to share bits of your time in Australia Julie. My son & I are spending time in Paris & this popped into my feed at the perfect time – I’m feeling a little homesick. But shots of fig trees, frangipani & the wonderful Aussie sky make me happy.
I love the idea of messages from loved ones on the wings of birds – I’ll remember that next time I see a feather on the ground.

Julie, a long, long time ago, when I was 14 my family moved from England to Sydney. I was very unhappy there and didn’t really appreciate what was around me. I married an American thereand a long time ago he brought me to America. I thought I would be happy leaving Sydney, but I have come to realize that it was probably one of the most wonderful places I have been privileged to live. When I look at your pictures, my heart feels a little tug of sadness, but I love it that so many of your photos are almost exactly the ones I take each time I go back so that I have memories to turn to when I get sad and miss my family and my old home.
Thank you for the mind-trip back home!
