Art Journal Every Day: Wrapping Up March 2016

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleveryday

If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

It has been a while since I've shared my daily pages.  Do you enjoy seeing them?  I enjoy sharing!

I've tried to share a few details about each page today.  I hope my comments will help inspire you to create your own fabulous art journal pages!

A note about this first page: You'll notice that the dates represented are the 14th, 17th, and 19th.  So, while I call this my "daily art journal," the truth is that I don't make it into the journal every single day.  And that's okay.

As you can see, doodling inside basic letters is an easy way to make them look super duper fancy!

My art journals are full of leftovers.  In the photo above you can see lots of little paper scraps getting used to make the heart even more decorative.

Lately I've been really into cutting holes in my art journal pages.  If you're interested in making your art journal a bit more interactive, come to Whitman, MA next month for my class all about it!

This next page has a multi-layered series of inserts (another technique I'll be teaching in Whitman)…

…but let's look at some of the page details first:

Plain lettering looks just a little bit fancier when you outline out — especially if you use a gold pen!

You can see that I used a bunch of leftover ScanNCut drawing/cutouts here.  I keep my leftovers paper bits in a little bin on my desk.  Then, when I'm working in my art journal they're easy to grab and use up.  I like feeling like nothing is going to waste!

I continue to be eye-obsessed.  And I think puns are funny.  ;)

I'm a little bit in love with this glitter tape.  It's super duper shiny!

This is the first flap:

This is the second flap:

It's a feedback postcard from a hotel I stayed in (the faces are printed on it).  I incorporated it into my journal and then doodled around the edges.

This is the back of the second flap:

I used my Pebbles Tied stencil to create a somewhat seamless look across all the flaps.

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my journal.  I'll share a few more pages next week!

Happy journaling and thanks for stopping by!

  • Love your journal peek. I think your journal is absolutely beautiful.
I especially loved what you did with your drawing cuts from your Brother Scan n cut. I just want you to know I am so in love with my scan n cut. I am making felt dolls with mine at this time.
Keep up all that you do and all that you are. Love love reading all your information and newsletters.

  • I love seeing your pages!
I would also really enjoy seeing more of the start and middle! Can’t seem to wrap my mind around how you go from backgrounds to the finish. Thanks!

  • Hi Julie, I hope I am brave enough to cut holes into my journal! Have always loved pockets and flaps. On the other hand, there are lots of gems I probable shouldn’t be throwing away. I plan to get a small, open container for my desktop!
