Art Journal Every Day: From My Australia Sketchbook

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day #artjournal #artjournaleverydayIf you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week, use the hashtag #artjournaleveryday so that we can all take a peek.  Even if you're not on social media, you can see everything (from twitter, pinterest, instagram, and facebook) that uses that hashtag here.

I keep a lot of different types of art journals, including travel sketchbooks.  Today I thought that I would share some photos of sketches I did while on my epic Australia trip.

First up, I did some sketching with Jane Davenport, who I discovered, has a special talent for filming herself while sketching.

I was pretty impressed!

Here are some of my sketches:

Do you work in different kinds of art journals?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Haha, I think that man kept trying to redistribute the weight on the plane! But sorry he was so annoying that you felt compelled to document. Flights should be pleasant as you look towards the next adventure.
Yes, I have a class journal and a general sketch journal and a dog journal. And the journal with perforated pages to add to the other art journals! The journal with my four-footed family is my current favorite. I just bought a square Moleskine ArtPlus, the shape intrigued me, but I don’t know what I am going to do with it yet.

  • I have too many journals that I work in at different times depending on the week. 😉 It is nice to know that I am not alone with not completing one journal before I begin another 😉 Thanks for sharing! Love your posts and your drawing skills of people you come across in your travels.

I love the sketching that you do and the light colors of the watercolors.

  • I have a journal that includes only tags and business cards from other artists. I have my Hobonichi Techo, which I try to write in daily. I’ve got a couple of Moleskines that I use for testing materials. Sadly, I haven’t done a full-fledged “art journal” in a couple of years. I did, however, make one (sewn binding) for an upcoming international trip.

  • Hmmm, yes I thought I was the only one who has numerous journals on the go … I must admit it is satisfying to actually work in one long enough to finish it.

I have water color, hiking, road trip, at home for tangles, for flowers, for birds, for camping, travel journals for long trips, for short trips, for on the plane (no liquids) for damn near everything…life is good.

  • Hi Julie, I’ve been receiving your e-mails for over a year but this is the first time I have commented. I love the vitality and complexity and vibrancy of your work.
I use a large art journal book and usually just comment with a few words or a quote rather
that full journalling . I also use booklets to create “Journal by 5’s” which can also include
quotes or sayings. Both are avenues for playing with my art materials.
Looking forward to your next post. Louise
