Adventures in Arting Podcast: Episode #44 (from Australia)

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Adventures in Arting Podcast

I'm delighted to bring you another episode of the Adventures in Arting Podcast!

If you do not see the podcast player above, please click on this link.  You can listen to a podcast anywhere and at any time.  It is a recording that is available to you whenever you'd like to listen.  If you'd like to download it to your iTunes library, click here.  You can also pause and rewind or fast forward as you desire.  I like to listen to podcasts while I'm making art.  It's a little like hanging out with friends while you art.

I've got a quick podcast for you today.  It's about 18 minutes of chatting about my Australia trip thus far.  My voice is a little bit weird because I'm trying to be quiet and so I'm not quite as bubbly as usual.  You can also see a periscope video of me and Nat talking about Australia for the next 12 hours or so HERE (You don't have to have a periscope account to watch the video on your computer).

Here are some photos of the things we discuss on the podcast:

  • Sounds like a wonderful trip and I’m sure everyone is happy to meet you! My understanding of cadmium in the US is that student grade paints, you don’t have to worry about. Some artist grade paints, you can actually buy cadmium yellow, orange, red. I’ve heard that you just can’t reproduce those colors in the hue per some artists (no cadmium) and I have bought them but tend to shy away from them. Some artists that use them say you are safe as long as you don’t eat them (like stick you brush in your coffee). There is a lot to love about artist grade paints but I’m beginning to wonder if I might be reacting to paint all together and should wear non latex gloves… Matisse is supposed to be a wonderful paint. Ginger Cook (she has a .com site and You Tube) uses it. There are a couple of colors you can’t get in other paints that are beautiful. It is more expensive here in the US. Each person should research cadmium and decide. For me, I think I’ll stick with the hue. I found the article you linked to was pretty interesting. Love you pod casts! Thank you!
