Adventures in Arting Podcast: At The Ink Pad with Anna & Barbara

I'm delighted to bring you another episode of the Adventures in Arting Podcast!

If you do not see the podcast player above, please click on this link.  You can listen to a podcast anywhere and at any time.  It is a recording that is available to you whenever you'd like to listen.  If you'd like to download it to your iTunes library, click here.  You can also pause and rewind or fast forward as you desire.  I like to listen to podcasts while I'm making art.  It's a little like hanging out with friends while you art.

Today's topic is going to the museum with a friend and how that changes the experience.  For this podcast Mom and I invited our friend, Nathalie Kalbach to join us!  Here's a photo I took of her at MoMA in the Picasso Sculpture exhibit:

And one I took of Mom at the deCordova Sculpture Garden:

And a photo my Dad took of me at the MFA exhibit I mention on the podcast:

Can't take me anywhere…. 😉

And because we talked so much about food at the museum, here's a photo of the most recent meal Nathalie and I had at MoMA:

Yum!

On the podcast we discuss why you go to a museum, bringing yourself to the art viewing experience, the nature of failure, art in real life vs. photographs, whether knowledge helps or hurts the viewing experience, food, and the magic of talking about art with a friend.

Be sure to leave us your comments and questions!  We'd love to add your voice to the conversation!

  • Julie I really enjoy your podcasts, even when I don’t think I am not going to. I always learn something new, and love hearing insights from other artists. Also, I especially love your mom’s perspective.
    Thanks for these. –Deb

  • Another great podcast. I especially enjoyed the discussion on having different reasons for going. I had my four-year-old granddaughter look for dogs in the University of Michigan collection. She discovered things I hadn’t. She also found a sculpture that had lost its leg, she felt, and we spent time looking for it. No luck. She’s now eight and I’m looking forward to taking her to the museum at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; they moved; and seeing what she discovers there. I also had a great discussion with my husband as to why he didn’t like a certain piece. He didn’t know, and we talked through it. Always have a why for an opinion. Thanks for your insights and your technique sharing.

  • Loved listening to this on my commute into Cambridge on Wednesday – something inspires me in every one of your podcasts – and this one reminded me that I need to get back to the museums around here! We are so lucky to have so many varied and beautiful places to see. Suggestion – if you are over in Arlington, be sure to check out the http://13forest.com gallery – they have some really fun stuff there.

  • This was fun! I love when you and Nathalie get together. I actually snorted during an all out laugh. But other than fun, it was really interesting and there were good points to think about. At one point, I found myself coming back to a point that I seem to make a lot lately. That is to stop, take a breath and remember that you really don’t know what someone else is having to deal with. Do you know what I mean? Whether it might be clocks on a wall as art, what inspired someone’s art, or what was behind someone’s odd behavior. I always find that interesting to think about. I also always enjoy your mom’s input.
