Art Journal Every Day: Pages Without Journaling

from the Balzer Designs Blog: Art Journal Every Day (video in the post) #artjournalIf you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

Lately I've been doing a lot of pages without any journaling.  Pages that just sort of stand alone.  For the most part, they're still created in the same way as my regular daily pages — I create them little by little over time in short bursts.  They just don't have any daily journaling.  Check them out:

If this page looks familiar it's because I created a lot of the background when I filmed my "Exploring Art Foamies" video.

This next page is all about the background:

2-NotintheMood-wm

To begin, I used clear packing tape to clean off my Gelli® plate.  It's a technique that the good folks over at Gelli Arts shared a few years ago in this video:

In the video, they're making purposeful tape. I simply use the tape to clean off my Gelli plate after a particularly vigorous printing session.

Once I had the tape, I glued it into my journal to create a super cool background.

This page also features another Picasso face that I expanded around the edges.

Finally, I have a page that's just an abstract study.

  • Love the idea of the packing tape gelli plate prints. I definitely need to try this out as mine gets pretty gunked up. I’ve been leaving lots of journal pages without words lately as well – I love the abstract study you did here!
