Okay, I had heard a lot about these Chameleon Pens, but I didn't really understand the hype. However, a sweet friend gifted me with a set of them and so I decided to do a little internet research before cracking the package open. I found this video on the Chameleon site and I got a little giddy:
That's super cool, right? I eagerly cracked open the package and got experimenting. You can watch the video to see what I tried and how I feel about the pens after giving them a go:
Here are some of the things I experimented on in the video:
What do you think? Have you tried the Chameleon Pens?
Thanks for stopping by!

Nope. Haven’t tried them. I’ve seen live demo’s and I imidiately knew I’m waaaaay to impatient for this :-).

Thank you Julie for sharing these videos with us! They look really neat but like you I don’t think that I would want to take the time to infuse with every petal or item I was colouring.

Due partly to create and craft pushing these pens they were the must have craft tool of the moment here in the UK. Craft magazines, forums etc were full of people talking about them .
However, the downside of Create and Crafts exclusive selling deal was their very high selling price. Now have seen many sets of the pens for sale at considerably lower prices by people who either never used the pens or just never got on with them.
However, despite seeing and hearing ad nauseam the adverts and people singing their praises I just was not interested. Whilst I colour in my work not really a big fan of alcohol ink pens, there are just too many other ways to introduce colour that I prefer or have yet to try. Wish I had worked that out before I spent so much money on promarkers though.
Mindfulness or not I also am not somebody who enjoys spending time just colouring in images. Thus the current trend of adult colouring in books is another one I will pass on.

I played with the markers at a stamp show. I did not find them easy to use. No patience for constant fusing of the tip to light the color. Hard to control color blend. Also pricey. These are not for me.

Thank You Julie for trying out these pens and sharing your findings with us. I feel the same way as others who have commented in this post. I’m sticking with watercolors and water-soluble crayons and pencils, which is much simpler and easier to use. 🙂

Thank you for this video and all of the information. After watching this I realize it is not for me, no patience for one and I am still learning lots of ways with paints and watercolors. I have alcohol pens and really do not use them because I don’t like the smell and just the whole process with the alcohol pens themselves. This was very good for me as I wondered if I would like these, but nope, not for me.
Thanks Julie for all the information because you help me so I don’t spend money only to find out it is not a product for me.

Nope, not for me, either! Too fiddly, and unforgiving with other inks. Good tip about the free downloadable images, Julie–laser printer only. I’m not a Copic fan, either. They got so much hype here some years ago, so I took a class, but even after that I just couldn’t see the point.
But some people love them, and good for them. Do what sings to you!

Thanks, Julie, for this series! These pens do look fascinating–not sure I really need them, though. One the other hand, what does that have to do with anything? I might try them down the road, though. Amazon does have a set of just the primaries, which might be a way to try them out without the expense of the big set. Ans what a nice friend you have!

Julie thank you for doing this video. I thought I was the only one who didn’t like this markers. Like you I am too impatient for these to work for me. I want to see results right away. Accounting 215 drove me crazy. They have beautiful colors and some people I’m sure will absolutely love them. But not me. Can’t wait to see your next video.

They would probably work better for coloring stamped images with the Memento pad that you use for Copics. Thanks for the video, like you I don’t have the patience for infusing every time and what if I want that medium color all the time? Will stick with my Copics and watercolor. 🙂

I am a Copic user. One thing to note is that the reason Staz On does not work is the chemical properties in both the Staz On and the Alcohol. I think the time it takes to infuse is the big thing for me. Some say it’s hard to layer with Copics, but it really isn’t. I’m concerned that these would make people discouraged to use any other Alcohol inks, which is sad. Alcohol inks have so many great qualities and these pens don’t seem to bring those to light but rather are quite limited as you so wonderfully demonstrated.

I took a couple of Copic classes and was told to relax about the streaky-ness it would blend when dried – and sure enough it did! I was doing faces and skin tones so it was really obvious when it worked and I was really worried before it did…

I got them after watching them on Create and Craft in the UK, thinking it would be more cost effective than buying Copics. However, I have found them to be a waste of money. It takes too long, never blends evenly and nibs are rubbish. I’ll stick to watercolour pens and pencil.
