ArtJournalEveryDayLogo-150If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

I really love my art journal.  Have I mentioned that lately?  I think of all the art things that I do, my art journal remains the single constant anchor.  It truly grounds me — artistically and personally.  When I haven't journaled in a few days, I can tell.  I'm like a junkie!  I get the shakes and I need my art journaling fix!  Just kidding…sort of.  ;)

Here are some daily pages from April:

1-CircledFoil-wm

Remember when I did those foiling tutorials back in January?  This was the foiled face page I created:

BalzerFoil-wm

Well, for better or worse, I painted over most of that page to create the page you see at the top!

1-detail1-wm

One of the coolest things about unmounted rubber stamps?  You can curve them (as you can see I've done with the days-of-the-week stamps)!

1-detail3-wm
1-detail3-wm

I embellished the face a bit (check out those eyelashes):

1-detail4-wm

For me, nothing in my art journal is sacred or "done."  It's all an ongoing journey; a process.

2-Leaves-wm

This page is full of layers of things I tried out.  I drew an alphabet on top of some stenciling I had done.

2-detail5-wm

I didn't like the alphabet, so I (mostly) covered it up.

I use a lot of dash lines to separate things in my art journal, but sometimes I get bored with them.  So, on this page I went for plus signs.

I feel like I often have extra photos laying around and my art journal is a great place to stash them.  This photo of my brother and his girlfriend has nothing to do with the journal entry, but it seemed like a fine place to stash the random photo.

3-HalfFace-wm

A page with no journaling! GASP!  Sometimes that's the way it works out.

3-detail1-wm

The "parking ticket" was a gift from a student. I thought it was super funny, so I decided to glue it into my journal.  I like using my art journal as a place to memorialize fun things that would otherwise get lost.

I bought some washi tape in Canada that I'm obsessed with.  It's so different from the other washi that I have.

So, there you have it!  A few pages from April.  More to come next Friday!

  • Hey Julie, I love your posts. You are so inspiring – art every day! As someone who works full time in a non-art job, I so envy your ability to do that. One of my burning questions is: when do you sleep?! Ha!

  • I love looking at your art journals, Julie. And thank you for the link list. Knowing that it is here each week, inspires me to create something to share. I also enjoy clicking through the links and looking at what everyone creates. It’s one of my favorite things to do over the weekend.

  • Are your days of the week stamps really 3.25″ x 5″? That seems huge to me but I can’t really tell from just looking at them in your journal. Thanks for any help on this question.
