I'm delighted to bring you another episode of the Adventures in Arting Podcast!
If you do not see the podcast player above, please click on this link. You can listen to a podcast anywhere and at any time. It is a recording that is available to you whenever you'd like to listen. If you'd like to download it to your iTunes library, click here. You can also pause and rewind or fast forward as you desire. I like to listen to podcasts while I'm making art. It's a little like hanging out with friends while you art.
Today we have no guest. Or rather, I'm the guest! My Mom thought that it would be a good idea to chat about teaching in-person classes. Here's a recent photo of me teaching:
On the podcast Mom and I discuss my philosophy on teaching classes, taking classes, and what I hope students walk away from class with. I hope you'll give the podcast a listen and let me know what you think!
Thanks for stopping by!

Very insightful episode, Julie. Having taken classes from you both online and in person, it was very cool to hear your thoughts as a teacher, of whom I consider you one of the best! 🙂

Your thoughts cover so many different areas in life, I can adapt some of them to my work, so thanks Julie :). It’s always a pleasure to listen you.

That was great. I really appreciated what you said about taking away a project vs learning a technique or style. It totally resonated with me and put words to thoughts/feelings/frustrations I’ve had in the past. I was going through some of my scrapbooks the other day and I have one that I made in a class that I still hate. And the reason I hate it is because it is someone else’s style (that I don’t even like) with my photos in it. I am so much more careful now when selecting a class and after listening to today’s podcast, I am even more clear how to avoid that error in the future! Great topic for a myriad of reasons. I enjoyed it!

julie, you were the first podcast i ever listened to, & still one of my faves! this podcast was fantastic. it’s true you are an awesome host on scrapbook soup. i watched the old scrapbook memories or whatever it was called back then. you rock it! i’m also glad you’ve chosen the art path you have, because it’s given you such a knowledge base that you continue to share with us all. i completely agree about when i take a class i want the process, NOT the product! i wish i had your words of wisdom years ago. i think i would have saved money if i had asked myself those questions, or understood what i was paying for when a class was offered. i’m also one of the slow students who needs more time to take info in, digest it, think about it, practice it. i would be the one sitting there exhausted with all the new info. please continue these shows. your mom & you make such a great team truly! 🙂
