If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
Happy Friday! Today I want to share quick tutorial on how to use a thermofax screen in your art journal. I've previously posted a bit about how thermofax screens work (here) and you've seen them in my art journal, like on this page:
Watch the video for the skinny on how easy they are to use!
In the video I'm using a screen that I designed for Cloth Paper Scissors's "Getting Started: Printing Basics" kit. You can find lots of thermofax screens on etsy, just do a search and you'll find tons of options — including custom screens based on your own designs or photographs!
Here's a peek at the page background I created in the video:
You can see the extraordinary level of detail in the print above.
As I mentioned in the video, if you push too hard or make multiple passes, you get a smushed print like the one above.
You can see that you can seamlessly print across different surfaces with a thermofax screen — washi tape, calendar pages, scrapbook paper, watercolor paper — easy peasey!
Here you can see some detail up against the edge of the page. Those holes in the page edge are the reason I put a piece of deli paper under the page to protect the page underneath.
I hope you'll give thermofax printing in your journal a try! It's fun and easy and gives you a great result!
Here is this week's linky list:
Thanks for stopping by!

I enjoy all your tutorials, particularly those on journaling. How do you make parts of the page blurred so you can show the page but retain some privacy?

These are beautiful. I love how much detail you add to your pages. I definitely need to work on that.

Do you have to use a special screen printing paint with these or will any acrylic paint work?
Also I totally thought from the title that you would need an iron or other heating tool, very happily surprised it’s so simple!! Off to peruse etsy for the next few hours…
