CarveDecemberHeader
I had so much fun doing #CarveDecember!  Here are days 22 – 31:

22-heartrepeat
22-heartrepeat
I used the joy stamp to decorate some small coin envelopes and put all my Christmas tips into the envelopes!

23-joyenvelopes
23-joyenvelopes

I created a custom colored ink pad and decorated the envelopes for my Christmas cards with this repeating stamp!

24-color
It looks so different in color, doesn't it?!

25-airplane
25-airplane
This is a "garbage stamp" I carved from a leftover, or "garbage" piece of rubber.  Its beauty is in the printing!

I was clearly in clean-up mode, because the next set of stamps are also "garbage stamps."

27-garbagestamps
Some days-of-the-week stamps for my art journal:

27-garbagestamps
I couldn't decide which way to carve them (outline or shadow), so I did both!

A gift for a friend:

29-May
Hand carved stamps make great gifts — even to non-crafty friends!

30-tribal

For this last stamp you can see my concept sketch (auditioning different backgrounds) along with the finished print and stamp!

I carved stamps 26-31 in my hotel room in California:

Carving-wm
Stamp carving is a very portable art form, just make sure you put your blades in your checked luggage!

We're recording an Adventures in Arting Podcast later today all about #CarveDecember — with three of the participants, and of course me and my Mom.  We'll be chatting about the experience of carving every day and I'll post the podcast tomorrow!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • There isn’t a stamp in this post that I don’t covet – you’ve done a masterful job on all of them. Your repeating stamps, especially, inspire me, so I’m going back to the studio for a couple of stamp-carving years.

  • Great carving and stamp use, but Julie! Please straighten up! Bending over your projects like that could lead to disk problems. (Ask me how I know.) 😉 P.S. Nice hotel room!

  • these stamps are wonderful. I could not make anything so complex. I think you are sooooo talented. I also love the embroidery you do…you are an inspiration. I think I may add stamp making to my list of projects (but where will I find the room?) I already have tons of broken china for mosaics, tons of vintage fabrics for my books, tons of paints, many already-made-to use journals I have made, let’s see….oh. Yes, paper beads in bowls, fabric and sequins for the bracelets I make…Oh, and many, many vintage children’s books that I use in my journals…I know there is more. But now I have to add stamp carving. Life is so much fun!!

  • This was a great learning expierence. Seeing the variety of stamps and techniques was inspirational. I started looking at things around me and wondered how they would look carved as stamps. Thanks again for starting this and all of your encouragement.

  • Fabulous stamps, Julie! I adore your repeating pattern stamps (that “garbage” stamp triangle, as well as all the others…)
And the last stamp, with the fish, has to be one of the best “whole image” stamps I have seen. I think I’ll have to get your stamp book.
