I use a lot of different fonts for art projects and so I thought I'd share some of my faves with you today!

Favorite typewriter font: Kingthings Trypewriter.

KingthingsTrypewriter

I have tried a lot of different typewriter fonts and this one is clear but messy and I love the fact that the letters aren't straight.  Love it!

Favorite partner font: Cheapskate Fill & Cheapskate Outline

Cheapskatefill
Cheapskatefill

These fonts layer together to create a cool effect.

Favorite tall & skinny font: Amatic

Amatic

I love fonts that look like handwriting and this one is one of my faves to use in my Project Life album.

Favorite script font: Jane Austen

JaneAusten

For me, what makes a handwriting font great is readibility combined with uniqueness.  This font has both.  A lot of script fonts feel too formal to me.  This script font has a casual feel that I really like.

Favorite bold font: Bebas

Bebas

Bebas is a wonderful all-caps font.  It's easy to read and is great for titling of all kinds!

Favorite distressed font: 28 Days Later

28dayslater

Distressed fonts are great for art projects because they look less like printed out fonts.  There are so many great distressed fonts out there, but this one is my fave because the distressing feels really natural and not forced.

Favorite handwriting font: arsenale white

Arsenalewhite
It has some readability issues when it gets small, but I still love the character of this font — especially the not-straight quality.

Are you a font lover?  What are some of your faves to use in your artwork?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Thanks for sharing. But your Project Life comment jumped out at me and I searched your blog I found the past posts about PL very helpful. I too have decided to give it a go but using the mini albums. I love your idea to make your own cards. Thanks again for your insightful tips!

  • Hi Julie, I’m a font lover too, though I mostly use stamps on my projects. I love the Typenoksidi typewriter font but I will definitely take a closer look at your kingthings suggestion, too. One font I also like is FFF Tusj but it always takes some time for my Mac to display it correctly. Heaven knows why. Thanks for sharing your faves.

  • and how are you getting all these various fonts onto your computer? Are you using these when you do photoshop or are you just printing them out out paper and then pasting onto your projects?

  • Great fonts. My problem is I don’t understand how to “download” them or how to save them to my existing fonts. Maybe you could offer a small tutorial on how we go about saving and later retrieving fonts we find online. a font novice:)

  • Well, speaking of typewriter fonts I recently bought a vintage Smith Corona Galaxie II typewriter and fresh ribbons for it. The experience of reintegrating my hands with a typewriter once more has been awesome. I’ve rediscovered not only one of the original Typewriter fonts but given myself the gift of time to think about what I reeeally want to put on the paper.

  • Maggie M: Try this to download. Click on the highlighted font name in Julie’s blog, which will take you to the Dafont website. Click on the download button on the right side. On your computer, click on FINDER (this is on a Mac), highlight DOWNLOADs and then click on font name. A box will appear with the font and a button to install. Click on the install button. The font will be installed in your Font Book, which will also appear. That’s how I do it. I hope this helps!!
And, Julie, great choice of free fonts! A couple of fun fonts: Dakota Handwriting & HarabaraHand, oh, and Jinky
