We moved into a new studio for season 2 of The Mixed Media Workshop (I created an informational page about the show, which I hope will be helpful to you).
Note the blank spot on the wall, which I filled with the canvas I shared last week. The new studio has carpet (for soundproofing). Mixed Media tends to be messy, so we covered the floor with plastic dropcloths. The plastic turned out to be very loud when standing and walking and was soon replaced by canvas dropcloths. Also, note that the table is up on boxes. I'm 5'8" and Jenn is 5'9", so we needed a taller table. However, it did mean that two of our guests ended up standing on a box. I'll let you guess which ones. ;)
Here's a peek at what it looks like when we're about to start filming:
You can see the TV on the left side of the photo. This is a monitor that allows us to see what camera 1 is seeing. There are four cameras overall. Camera #1 is the direct address camera. It captures the basic overall view and it's the camera we look into when we speak to the audience.

This is the prop room…
…where we lay out the trays for each of the segments. The walls are lined with shelves, filled with supplies of all kinds.
We did end up shooting one segment in the prop room because it was too messy for the set.
Then there is the Green Room, which is not green. It's the name given to any room where performers wait until they're needed on stage or on set. For us, it's the place we have our hair and makeup done, plug in our laptops, and where you can find cold Diet Cokes. Unless it's Thursday and we've already consumed them all….

Paige Martin is a professional bookbinder and also the Content Producer for The Mixed Media Workshop. She's an awesome person and a superstar at making books! (Plus, she lives in my hometown, about 5 minutes away from my Mom. Small world!) You can follow her on instagram here.
Mary Beth Shaw is the founder and owner of Stencil Girl. This was her first time wearing fake eyelashes and she rocked them, along with her segments! She shared lots of techniques for using paint and ink and stencils in your art journals! You can follow her on instagram here.
Leslie Tucker Jenison is a fabulous mixed media quilter. She makes me never want to throw anything away. Wait until you see what she can do with scrips and scraps and little leftover bits. It's stich alchemy! You can follow her on instagram here.
Filming is always an interesting experience. There are makeup touch ups…
…mic fixes…
…hilarious moments…
…endless conversations and set up…
…which can also lead to laughter…
…much silliness…
…including mandatory "duck face"…
(Jenn doesn't quite get how to do it. We'll have to teach her better for next season!)
…and even a little bit of art making….
I'm so delighted to be able to say that it's this amazing group of people who make every day on set a real pleasure!

It’s a tie between the felting and gelli plate classes. I’ve wanted to try both, but then there’s the stamping one and I always admire your hand carved stamps, especially the repeating patterns which I love also. You’re so creative!!!
