ArtJournalEveryDayLogo-150If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here.  All of the previous posts can be found archived here.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

I love to use big bold words in my art journal.  Fancy lettering or stamping is a great focal point and when I'm stuck, it's an easy way to get arting without a lot of thought or focus.

Sometimes the text I use is something someone has said to me that is rattling in my brain, like this recent one:

Quote

Or this one:

4-Feathers-wm
Sometimes it's a statement about current events, like this one:

1-Detail3-wm

That one was a global event, these two are more personal:

4-Hands-wm
4-OutofControl-wm
It could be as simple as the date, like this one:

3-Muscle-wm
Often it's an idea or thought I'm mulling over, like this one:

1-Selfish-wm

Or this one:

2-NothingToFear-wm
I also love to use quotes I find on Pinterest, like this one:

LoveQuote-wm

Or these two:

7-AttentionRedacted-wm
2-detail-wm
Song lyrics are always a good choice:

4-RedDetail-wm

Or sometimes I simply offer up a caption:

HaYouCan'tCatchMe-wm

1-ItsOkay-wm

Do you use big bold words in your journal?

Here is this week's linky list:

  • I use small bold letters and words in my art journal.
Some of those pages are particularly cool.
50 points down on your cholesterol is awesome!

  • Sure words are wonderful – thanks to your lettering class at The Ink Pad way back when the journaling club was going. Your lettering class introduced me to the notion of huge cursive writing and drop shadows (in color) which I now use and love. Sometimes only one or two words – never filling the page, but just enough to make the point.

  • Dear Susan, I had a look at your blog, and it was just what I neded. The Lord is so gracious to us. I have wondered how to art journal my feelings for Him so you were a good inspiration for me. Thanks for your words about big mountains, because I am a bit like you in that I can worry for ages, I stead of looking to Him. Then the mountain seems humongous. I have 4 kids, adults now, and boy, do I have problems. I just pray for peace about it all. Would love to talk to you more. Be Blessed, from Viv

  • Your bold words concept is very inspiring. You are my favorite artist to follow, because your work and words gives me freedom to not judge myself and just allow myself to make art.
On a slightly different note, I LOVE the quote about you can do ANYthing but not EVERYthing. I think too often, I am trying to do everything and wondering why I (seem) to be getting nothing done, but when I calm down and examine it I am getting something done.
