I am obsessed with the instagram account @2sisters_angie otherwise known as "Fashion by Mayhem." My Mom sent me a link to this article from The Huffington Post and I fell in love right away! Mayhem and her Mom make fabulous dresses out of paper of all kinds!
They also have a website that's fun to visit and has more in-depth information about the dresses. I love the fact that all of this creativity is driven by a four-year-old's imagination! My obesession with Mayhem's dresses led me to go looking for wearable paper dresses of all kinds.
Here are few grown-up paper dresses I found online:
Super cool stuff! It definitely makes me want to try my hand at making something fabulous and wearable out of paper. In the past I've fooled around with making tiny paper dresses.
But I'm dreaming of creating something on a grander scale!
Have you ever made a wearable paper dress? I'd love to hear about the experience of making it!
Thanks for stopping by!
Wow. Um no, I’ve never made a wearable paper dress but look forward to seeing what you make Julie.

WOW! What fun! I would need a much larger space OR I could kick everyone out and get rid of the furniture…sounds do-able…
I have made one paper dress out of teabags for a miniature mannikin…she stands watch in my studio, and holds the rubber bands. I had lots of fun making her, but again there is a space issue. Guess I’m going to have to get into selling some of this stuff. Thanks for all the fun so early in the morning.

Very cool! Haven’t tried making a paper dress yet but I’ve been considering making a dress out of paper or fabric for a small paper mâché dress form I have. After seeing your great small paper dress I think I will give it a try with paper! Thanks for the inspiration!

I seem to remember paper dresses back in the sixties–some company made them and they were “sack” dresses which were popular at the time. You wore them once or twice and threw them away. They were plain and boring, not like these wonderful creations! Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you come up with for a dress.

My sister had one of those paper dresses from the 60’s… I really wanted one too but they were too big for me at the time. I thought she was so cool!!!

These are amazing! This makes me think of my friend who makes dresses and vignettes totally out of paper – even the buttons and piping, etc. in miniature…. See her outstanding work at http://pattygrazini.com/current-work/

My local art museum just had a show of magnificent paper dresses–and other clothing and accessories–that blew my mind! The artist is Isabelle de Borchgrave and she emulated Fortuny dresses from the twenties and all sorts of ethnic clothing. Just amazing!

This reminds me of two things 1) the challenges on Project Runway when the designers have to buy their materials from someplace like the dollar store or party warehouse. Amazing the creativity they have 2) a locally old kitchen stuff store. They have a dress form in their window and make clothes for it out of kitchen items. Also amazing stuff.

They made dresses out of paper in the early 60s. I had one, it was just a shift and orange. I wore it to a Halloween party, cause I was big a a pumpkin with my pregnancy , so I thought I should look like one.
The paper was like the heavy paper tablecloths. That might be a starting point for your project.

I really really wish I could find a photo of it online, but I saw a dress in an art exhibit once that was called something like “dress of 1000 secrets”, and the entire thing was made of envelopes. Each envelope contained one of the artist’s secrets about her life and about what it meant to be a woman (it was a feminist piece). And the dress was GORGEOUS. I was totally blown away by it.

How beautiful! I haven’t made a paper dress, but I’d love to try some day.

I’ve been looking everywhere for the perfect dress to wear to my son’s California wedding in late May. As a paper artist, I found an origami dress and pinned it on my Mother of the Groom Pinterest Board. I thought he’d laugh himself silly! I do think it would be fun to craft something I actually could wear. I do LOVE LOVE LOVE your miniatures. Anne, yourmainestamper

Not only are these paper dresses the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while, that little girl is just the cutest thing ever. What a fun idea/challenge, designing and playing making a paper dress or dresses with my 4 yr old granddaughter Kaya Rose.
I have to say picking any one as a favorite is impossible. They really are all very creative, beautiful, and just plain genius. Thanks for sharing. (((HUGS))))
