I'm a great believer in learning from what you like.  By thinking about what I like about these layouts I hope to make even better scrapbook pages in 2014!  With that in mind, here are some things these layouts seem to share:

  • Assymetry — strongly weighted to one side or the other.
  • Faux Polaroids — both using an even border and a "write on" border.
  • Photo Groupings — with the exception of one layout, every multiple photo layout has the photos touching and overlaping so that they become a single visual element.
  • Bold Title — for the most part, it's the first thing you see on the page.
  • Paint and Stencils — it's not surprising to see that all of these pages have paint, spray ink, and/or stencils in use.
  • Handwriting — with a few exceptions, all of these pages feature my handwriting – either in the title work or for the journaling.

Did I miss anything?  Do you see any similarities that I should make note of for the future?

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Hmmm, for the most part, these layouts seem to have lots of white space too, giving them a nice “clean” feel. I love “My Photo Face” and “Can’t Stop Smiling” for all the colorful drips running thru the white space. Yet I adore the intricate background on “Full House”. OK, I’ll admit it…I pretty much love all of your art and have learned a ton from you. Can’t wait to see what you create next.

  • Your smiling face was in many of them and maybe it reflects new confidence, inner strength, peace, happiness, or just a very long case of giggles. Whatever, they seem much more personal without being all about me, myself, and I. That is a fine line to walk – but you did it like the flying Wallendas! It is also the key to having your pieces be interesting to everyone else as they can put themselves in your piece so easily. Guess there are not many emotions that we all can’t share. Happy New Year.

  • There is a strong visual aesthetic present in each piece. One can clearly see that these works were created by the same artist. They are all beautiful.
