If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
Today I'm sharing some art journal pages from the end of August and the beginning of September. I really love the act of writing in my journal every day. It's like a pressure release. I just brain dump all of my thoughts, insecurities, fears, hopes, and the random junk that's floating around in there. I always feel good afterwards and ready to face the rest of the day!
I've been trying to kick myself out of my painted face rut, so I used markers to create this face.
I really like how she turned out. It has made me want to try letting go of the brush more often.
I am less thrilled with this face. I had an idea and it just didn't quite work out. But the thing I love about my art journal is that when something doesn't work out, you just turn the page and move on!
Many years ago I had a paper line with a French scrapbooking manufacturer. The patterned paper behind the face is from that line.
It's always amazing to me how cool a bit of black and white doodling looks (behind the face).
Trying to push myself away from "just doing faces," I drew some triangles on this page.
The alphabet stamps are hand carved.
Another attempt to get away from painting faces!
That's my Curl Frame stencil in this hand.
A bit of faked fancy lettering is always a good choice.
What have you been doing in your art journal? Here is this week's linky list:
Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Julie, i always love the faces you do, so bold and wonderful, but now I am lovin’ those hands! Have a fun weekend, kathy

Actually really like the blue face you were so thrilled with! I think she’s lovely! And totally digging the hands! Mind if I “steal” the idea?

I like the hands page. Recently I forgot to being some stencils with me to play with my art journal and my son said “let’s use the ones we always have with us”…so our hands told the story that day.

Hi, Julie: As always, awesome pages! You continue to be an inspiration for me!
I have a Photoshop question. How do you get a shape of “blur” over the text you don’t want to be readable? I know about the blur tool in PS but I see you have, say, an entire triangle over a section, and an arc in another. How do you do that?
Thank you so much!
Sandra

I find I do write a lot in my art journal lately (and blur before publishing) – I am thinking of keeping a ‘text only diary’ again. I wrote diaries for over 30 years but stopped when I started art journals… I do feel I need to write more lately so I might start one ‘private’ writing diary besides the ‘chronicles’… I uploaded a link to my Wednesdaypost and the journals that are on my desk there to illustrate that there’s a lot going on in my head ánd studio lately…
