If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
I don't think that I have a particular style in which I always art journal. I'm kind of all over the place and maintain several art journals so that I can express myself differently depending on my mood. This past week I worked in my daily journal, did a page in my watercolor travel journal, and experimented in a brand new journal. Today I thought I'd share the latter two pages with you.
Just a quick sketch in the airport. Used a Pitt Pen and my trusty Sakura watercolor set (which comes with a waterbrush). He had an unnaturally high forehead, which I think I managed to capture. I really enjoy doing these quick character sketches. Looking back at them, I can really remember so much about the moment.
This very sad face — I think I was working something out when I worked on her (art therapy?) — was done using watersoluble crayons. I know I've mentioned that I'm less interested in "pretty" faces these days and more interested in faces with character — faces that tell a story. I think she does. And I'm rather pleased that despite the bright colors she still transmits some dark emotions.
Are you an all over the place journaler? Or do you have a single style you usually work in?
Here is this week's linky list:
Thanks for stopping by!

I am an all over the place journaler too. I have several running at same time and even when I’m feeling eh about journaling some color, image or texture in one of them will get me rolling. The emotions of the very sad face are wonderful, just love how expressing yourself in an art journal can be sooo therapeutic!
Have a great weekend!

I’m an all over the place kinda gal. 🙂 I’m still relatively new to creating art (a little over a year) so I feel like I’m still discovering my style. I do seem to be more consistent with 3 or 4 different types of work and within those types, I am honing in on a specific style.

I go between pen/ink and watercolor, and then lots of layering, acrylic, etc. Sometimes I write a lot, other times not at all. I view my art journal as a place to be completely free and not be bound to a style. Thanks as always for hosting and for sharing your journey. Loved your post the other day about how you allocate your time between art and business — very enlightening.

I keep two art journals plus loose papers going. One is an altered John Steinbeck book and the other a fabulous little Moleskine watercolor journal. I lost it briefly this week and was hugely relieved it didn’t get left behind on vacation. One is more of a downstairs-in-the-studio journal and the other is always at hand upstairs. I had another altered book but gave it to a young friend to begin her own journal in.

I do have several journals running at the same time, though they don’t get the same attention (time-wise).
I really appreciate your style – I like both paintings, though the girl is awesome – very intriguing, one has to come back and look at her figuring out what’s going on.
Thanks for hosting, Julie! 🙂
Cheers, Jana

I have to admit that I am an All Over the Place art journaler. Should I be worried that I don’t have a “style or a brand”?! I journal with supplies that strike me that day and in a way that I need to express myself. Thank you, Julie. Kath

So much energy in that sad face page by leaving a lot of the crayon scribbles unblended. With the black background, it has a bit of an effect like sgraffito!
My art journal style fluctuates. Lately I’ve been using just pen because it ended up on my bedside table and that’s where I’ve been working on it. My messy experiments have been happening on loose paper. I am not sure what to do with the loosey goosies!

Totally an all over the place gal. At least 10 journals going at once. And I’m all over the place as to whether this is a good thing or not LOL Sometimes I want to have fewer journals; sometimes I’m OK that I have so many.

Haha….I’m glad I’m not alone! I sometimes feel like I am all over the place, since I like doing so many things….and it depends on my mood, where I am, and what I have available to me. I just like play, and who cares if it’s not all in the same style, etc? It’s my art journal!

Definitely All over the place! I can tell if I am working something out or celebrating. The colors I am drawn to during a particular page say much about my mood.

Ok…I am just starting the journaling process but what I want to know is since I use so many different mediums, am I just better off with a mixed media journal? Less choices but I don’t want to mess up what I am trying to achive if the paper can’t handle it.
