One of the new things we did for this upcoming season of Scrapbook Soup, was to create a project for each episode that built on something from earlier in the episode. It's a great idea, but it had me in a bit of a panic as I had to create all thirteen of those projects while on set! Eeek!
Here are a few of the projects I came up with:
I honestly have never created so quickly in my entire life! It was a challenge and a rush and I'm amazed that I made it through!
Creating so quickly I found myself falling back on 3 design crutches that I use all the time:
- Grouping. An easy way to make many disparate elements looks good is simply to smoosh them together.
- Color Triangle. I think every single one of these projects has a clear color triangle surrounding the photograph. A quick and easy way to ensure that the viewer's eye bounces around the layout.
- Dimension. With the exception of the first layout, all of these projects have at least one element that literally pops off the page. Dimension is an easy design cheat for making a project look more complicated and interesting than it is.
