Passover was on Monday night and I made the cutest place cards!

COVERPHOTO
This is a project that was cool in my head AND cool in reality!  I love it when that happens.  In any case, they're easy to make, so I thought I'd share the how-to!

STEP ONE: MEASURE & MARK

Start with a piece of black cardstock.  Mine is 3 inches wide and 6 inches long.  Mark the cardstock at the halfway point (3" in my case) on the long side.  I make all my markings on the back (or non textured) side of my cardstock, but that's a personal choice.

Draw your skyline above the line, being sure to leave a bit of space at each end (this is how the card folds and the skyline pops up).

STEP TWO: CUT

Use a craft knife to cut around the skyline design.  I like to cut on a glass mat, but use whatever you're most comfortable with.

If you want to add cutouts, like windows, I recommend doing that BEFORE you cut out the outline, even though I've reversed it in this tutorial.  You can cut them afterwards (as I did), but it leads to more accidental paper tearing.  Learn from my mistakes.  :)

SIDE NOTE: I used a watersoluble pencil for this tutorial and you can "erase" the lines you drew with a wet tissue.

You can also use a regular pencil. It will show up on the black cardstock!  And then simply erase your pencil lines.

STEP THREE: FOLD IT UP

All that's left is for you fold your place card.

9-fold-wm
It should easily fold right at the edges where your skyline stops.  Here's a peek at two views of a card from the back:

I used a white pen to add the names to my place cards:

It was tough to get a photo of all the cards together — too much black on black — but here it is:

Finally, here's a peek at the table with all the placecards:

  • Julie, you are so clever and creative with place cards.
Makes me want to come to NYC just to sit at your table and see my name on a card! Happy Passover.

  • Beautiful table. Those place cards are fab too. They wouldn’t make much sense here on an organic farm but I think I’ll adapt them to chicken and egg cards!

  • Happy Passover. I’m wondering about your Haggadahs. We don’t like the ones we use anymore and I was thinking about making new ones. What do you use?
