Today I'm sharing two canvases! I made both of them while I was at Ronda's. They're both on wooden canvases, a new favorite of mine. Ronda's father-in-law makes them for her, but you can buy them online as well. I like the wood canvases because you can easily collage on them (there's no give, as with a traditional stretched canvas). I also found the edges easier to finish than a traditional canvas.
I used the Neocolor II watersoluble crayons to create the face. They've always been a favorite of mine, but lately I've discovered just how much you can do with them and I'm loving it! (I will be teaching a Neocolor II class in October.)
This next canvas was made with a mixture of collage, stamping, spray paint, and acrylic paint.
Not that I'm comparing myself to Picasso in any way shape or form, but I think this canvas has a Picasso-African-Mask-Period feeling to it.
I enjoy switching between mediums as much as possible. It keeps things fresh for me. How about you? Do you switch things up or pretty much stick with the same materials?
Thanks for stopping by!

These are just great Julie, I love those crayons and you’ve just got me interested in using them again… lovely results, and especially the second one, all those textures and surfaces, the richness of the color contrast and extra surface work just adds more vitality to it.
Have a great week there!

I really like these! I only own two neocolors and haven’t used them much. Hoping to take that class, as well as the deli paper one. I jump from medium to medium and mix it up. Can’t stick to one thing for long.

I love how you can create on the sides of these wood canvases.
At this point I tend to use the same materials.

These are both stunning!! As a new artist I’m tending to switch things up quite a bit, one because I’m looking for a favorite and two because I love to collect art supplies. I use acrylics, and sprays, water color pencils and water color crayons by Stampin’ Up. I also use TH distress inks and stains. I don’t have any Neocolors or Gelatos yet…

Julie, I’ll have to take your neocolor class – I’m so loving the way that portrait came out!
