I labored over this piece quite intensely and I think it shows it (and not necessarily in a good way).

I was going for a modern-day take on Marie Antoinette: cool, regal, feminine, a bit excessive.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I recorded an episode of the Paperclipping Roundtable yesterday.  We discussed the issue of having craft A.D.D. — jumping from craft to craft.  You can listen to it here.

  • I thought she looked a bit apprehensive, as if something off to the left is worrying her. I love the flowers and the background. They are cheerful and are a good contrast to her look.

  • I’m fascinated – I can’t see anything bad either – I might have missed you mentioning this but do you have plans for your 100 canvases when they are completed? What a commitment especially with all the other things you do – amazed!

  • I love the way you have used color. To me, she appears very feminine and dressed to suit her position. But her eyes give me the impression that she feels insecure and would rather be somewhere else. I had to keep looking at her before I figured that out, but good art is supposed to make you think and feel. Your work keeps getting better and better.

The colors are wonderful and the woman is certainly regal.

  • At first glance I saw a regal African woman, a queen, dressed in Western clothing. Maybe a U.N. representative?? Her features aren’t African, but the long neck, the style of the hat and the large earrings give her that feel. For me, that is. Your mileage may vary. And she doesn’t look worried to me. She looks very self-assured, as tho she’s waiting for someone.

I usually continue the painting on the front over to the sides. The black looks really nice and polished, I’ll have to remember that.
