I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I have a lot of trouble deciding when abstract paintings are "done."

I painted the edge of the canvas red for a pop of contrast:

The working title of this canvas is "Caught." What do you think? Does it speak to you?
Thanks for stopping by!
Each person will see something different in the canvas. When I looked at the painting I thought why “Caught?” It has made me look deeper. I still don’t know why you have chosen the title. That is good. It will keep drawing me back to try and ‘understand’ the painting and I think that is what Abstract Art is meant to do.

I like this very much. I like abstract paintings that you can look at time and time again and see something new. I am not a fan of block colour abstract art, but this I like. I love the way the colours are blended and overlapped effortlessly. Wonderful.

I very much like the colours, shapes, and movement, as well as the idea of the red edge. Like Rebecca, I am wondering why you gave the canvas this particular name. “Caught” implies feelings of tightness, of being unable to escape. However, looking at your painting leaves me quite relaxed and happy, wondering what the rest of the chain of circles would look like.

I think it is the happy colors that are the puzzle. Caught implies something that you can not get out of–something depressing and therefore, grey. However, there are other ways to be caught–you are “caught” by your mate, a doctor “catches” a baby at birth, you catch a ball. All of these are happy events and we want to be caught. I agree, an intriguing title.

I think the cluster of circles in the middle are ‘caught’ or held by the white lines or netting stopping them from dropping further into the hexagonals underneath… see, it’s funny how we all view a painting differently isn’t it? 🙂 I like it, I know what you mean though about not knowing when to stop.

This painting looks organic to me. The title and the visual on this make me think of cells and biology – kind of like maybe we’re caught or stuck with what our genes give us. The circle catches the color, too. It’s contained in each circular shape, almost floating in a pool of aqua.

It reminds me of a dream catcher, so the title “Caught” works for me.

I too saw a dream catcher. I really like the tangle of colors under the white.

What I saw…cell, nuclei but with more “images” behind and within the cell! As if you saw more than the microscope did. 🙂 It is fascinating. Do love the white “carryall” for the nuclei! Gosh, I hope I said it right and it is understood! 🙂 Oh! And the cell walls! 🙂

I know why it’s ‘Caught’…the bridal bouquet. Your abstract treatment of it is very clever.

I love how the red edges make the rest of the canvas pop.
Circle always speak to me especially when they are in other circles. It can represent life in so many ways. The relationships we have and the communities that we belong to; the tasks that keep us spinning…

Greetings from Australia! I love this painting, I know what you mean about a piece being finished. Who was it that said ‘a painting is never finished, it is merely abandoned’ ? I think Dali or Van Gogh. For some reason I feel like the white parts connecting the red circles and the white squares need black detail in them, like lines or text or something. Is that helpful or (I hope not)offensive?! You’re amazing by the way…I wish I could be a full time artist.

I spent time looking at it before I read what everyone else had to say. I was interested in the visual tension. Toward the bottom the white curving web-like lines cast a bit of shadow while at the top they seem to merge into the background. I guess this tension is part of the idea behind “Caught” as a title, but it seems so final and static for such joyous colors. I feel a little bit more of something organic and alive. But don’t ask me… I have named my collages “Whatever” “Whatnot” “I have no idea” and “Untitled” way too many times!

This is my interpretation too, like a spider web. I LOVE the colors, and the signature pattern which goes beyond the edges. Lela

Yes…it definitely speaks to me! “Caught” seemed a great title as my first thought was that it was an abstract “dream catcher!” Really love it!
