If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, there is a short introduction here. All of the previous posts can be found archived here. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
I rarely work on a page from start-to-finish in one sitting. It's just not the way my brain works. So, today I thought I'd share how a barely started page makes it to mostly finished. I started with a page that I used to do a color demo in class on Saturday.
And my mostly finished page looks like this:
It still needs something. So, I'm letting it marinate for a while.
If you'd like to watch me get from A to B, watch the three-minute video:

Here are some detail photos:
The quote is one I found on Pinterest. I simply retyped it, put it in an orange circle, and then printed it out. I didn't know it was going to go on this page. I placed it in my pile of ephemera and assumed it would make it into one of my journals at some point.
Here is this week's linky list:
Thanks for stopping by!

Fabulous Julie! I love the way this is going! I don’t often finish journal pages in one sitting either. I can flick past a half finished/ barely started background for months, then suddenly see something in it. It’s part of the fun (though it makes it harder to document the process). Anyway. Love it!

So cool to watch the model become first a lion (with the pink mane) and then a clown. Love to watch your process.

Julie, thanks for sharing your art making process with us! For me, trying to finish an art journal page at one sitting is often a problem – I end up making something I don’t like and feeling quite exhausted. I really should learn to leave pages wait for the next inspirational moment. Thanks for encouraging me to try that!

Julie,
Several times, you seem to be blotting your work with paper. Could you tell me about why you did this?

i think my favourite part was how you didn’t let the pretty papers stop you from painting over them… that was where i cringed and went… “If that was me, i’d be stuck right there…” Thanks for the inspiration.

As always, I found your process so inspiring!! Favorite moments include when you blotted your paint stripes and made a “plaid” with it, the fact that you have a pile of stamped, painted ephemera papers to work with, and how you stamped with your brayered paint off the palette paper. Those things that may seem to obvious to you can often be a forehead slapper to me!!

Really enjoyed this video and watching your process. I must remember to add more texture in the beginning with scratching like you do as I feel it adds so much to the end result. Very inspiring in so many ways, I’ve added your 30 days class to my Christmas wish list.

Subject: the big orange circle with a quote from Pinterest..
How did you get the white type
Did you paint the orange circle first.
How did you do this… I have been trying to do something like this for months
Thank you
