Remember the Book Club post I did last week?  The one where I decorated a journal cover using an embossed foil technique from Rebekah Meier's book More Fabric Collage Art?  Well, I had some leftover embossed foil and so I made a necklace!

I love it!  It was easy to make and it's super lightweight!  I'm thrilled and will definitely be using this technique to make jewelry again.  I'm thinking that you could make some really huge earrings that would weigh next to nothing…hmmmm…I'm off to create!

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. After seeing last week's Book Club post Rebekah has kindly offered up a copy of **her NEW BOOK** More Fabric Art Collage to one lucky reader!  Simply leave an answer to the following question in the comments section of this blog:

What's something you want to learn?

Julie Fei-Fan Balzer

Based outside of Boston, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer is a painter, printmaker, and collage artist who constructs vibrant compositions. Her artwork investigates the interplay of identity and perception, inviting viewers to take a longer look. Passionate about connecting with and inspiring other artists, she shares her expertise through in-person workshops and her online classroom at MyArtPractice.com. Julie's achievements include high-profile clients, multiple publications - including her book, “Carve Stamp Play” - and exhibits in New York City and throughout Massachusetts. I have just started exploring this side of myself and am doing mixed media, but so far have not ventured outside of different types of paint and marker and pencil on paper. I need to learn to use metals and these wonderful things to bring depth to what i do! Thanks for a chance to win a great book to expand my creative world!

  • Hi, Julie,
Thanks for this opportunity of winning Rebekah Meier’s book! My dh bought me a sewing machine about 2 yrs. ago so I could relearn to sew. (My beloved mom had taught me how a zillion yrs. ago) Your “contest” to win the book is a wonderful impetus!
I LOVE your stencils, & have zillions of them. They are so much fun to use.
And I LOVE reading your daily comments!
    Warm regards,
    Bobbie

  • I would love to learn about the key points to layering. I find that I create a few layers that I really like, then want to add more but that means I lose something from below. Is there a good order to add things. Paint first? Paper first? Embellishments last? Maybe there aren’t any rules of thumb. But if there are I’d love to learn them.

I doubt I can make anything close to that rockin necklace but I’ll give it a go sometime soon. That necklace would look good around my neck too.
Thanks for sharing all the stuff that you share on this blog. You rock.

I’d like to let the ideas fly out of my head and land over the rainbow:) The journey can be so much of a discovery…so why don’t I “JUST DO IT? Thank you for putting this out there. • cool necklace. the earring idea is great. i like long, dangling ones but most are too heavy. also, looks like you could make various components and put them together with a non-permanent system and then mix-and-match and come up with different designs from the same pieces… jewelry building blocks.

  • I would love to learn how to loosen-up more. I do jump right in to make things, but then the inner critic, the art training, the indecision creeps in and I stop. I have been doing little drawing in a fast manner in series of 12…all the same subject but different styles to get going and that is helping. Suggestions of exercises would be good.
Love your blog, your style and your enthusiasm. It is so infectious.

  • I just went to http://www.artunraveled.com and learned so much from Jane lafazio about drawing and watercolor and Lori Scott who taught Eco dyeing. I want to learn about art journaling from Tangie Baxter who does digital art since I currently do journaling with paints and stencils…..a new way to journal.

  • I would love to get back into my crafts. The last several years have been extremely difficult with going through a divorce, learning to live with being newly disabled, and losing my mom and sisters. I have completely lost all confidence in most areas, including my creative endeavors. A push in that direction would be appreciated. Good luck to everyone!

  • Oh I would love to win this book. I love to collage, especially with found objects, but what I really want to learn how to do is collaging digitally. I am mystified by the whole process. Am working at learning Photoshop CE and hope to learn more.
Julie I really enjoy your blog and look forward to your newsletter every week or more. Thank you for your information and just for being you.

  • WOW!!! That’s some necklace!…..beautiful. There’s never enough time…and so much to learn. For me, the latest techniques of image transfer would be helpful …. among the heap of other stuff that would enhance my work…. handmade stamps and stencils, using sewing in collage….etc.,etc., and so forth.
