And I'm completely obsessed with it!

I recently saw Christy Tomlinson using one of these:

And I knew that I had to have it!  I bought the Simple Dots design (without the handle, btw) and now I can't stop using it!  I am rolling dots all over everything I make.  These dots just seem to go with everything and make it all look so good.  Here are just a few peeks at projects I've used my roll-y dots on lately:

And a before and after:

I believe in the power of roll-y dots!

In all seriousness, they do the same thing that paint splats do: add energy and movement and texture.  And just as I fell in love with paint splats many years ago, I'm falling in love with the rolly dots now.  Swoon.

  • You make even the most simple things look absolutely amazing. Seriously. Best inspiration ever! — and I’m obsessed with a few different stamp sets at the moment, tiny little hearts and stars.

  • Yes, I have an art tool I am obsessed with …. STENCILS!!!! I want to thank you for offering your stencil 101 for free. I watch it over and over just to get some creative “sparks”. As for your new toy, when I first started becoming an artist (and still working on it) Stampin Up introduced me to these roller stamps. they were sitting in my drawer until Christy started using them in her classes. Now I have quite a few, including the tool that helps you keep it straight (if you have to)! Thanks…sue

  • Love the roll dots. Do you just hold on to the sides of the thing and roll since you don’t have the handle?
My current tool of choice is my sewing needle since I’m doing a TON of easy embroidery and beadwork on canvas right now.

  • Thanks for the reminder. I have bunches of these (plus the inks and handles) from my Stampin’ Up days. They look exactly the same, which isn’t a surprise since SU owns Clearsnap.
Anyway,,…my current obsession is my parallel pen, which I learned about from Joanne Sharpe’s online lettering class. They come in different nib sizes and work with cartridges for refilling (they come in all colors plus black), and they make anyone look like a calligrapher. Love them!

Art tool I am obsessed with: my scoreboard for making mini-albums and cards and my die cutting machines! I have the Big Shot Express and a Silhouette. I am enjoying cutting out graphics that will layer well on layouts or minis or cards!! I am even making my own tiny rosebuds using a MFT die!!! Saves money!

Since I still find myself in a bit of slump these days, the only thing I seem to be obsessed with is getting out of it!

As to the question, I am traveling in Europe for 10 weeks with some gouache, 2 brushes, 3 black Pitt Pens, some gesso and gel medium, a handmade journal and all the ephemera I can collect. So I guess it’s the ephemera that I’m obsessed with!

  • Ha ha . . . once I saw Christy using those roller stamps I went nuts also (I don’t bother with the handle). The dots, especially, add so much to the stencils. Now, I have a box of roller stamps and a huge amount of stencils. Over the weekend I decided to take my load of 6″x6″ stencils and store them in individual plastic sheets and put them in a notebook . . . and organize them by circles, stars, squares, alphabets/scripts, flowers, etc. Thanks for that idea!

  • Funny – I’m another that looked into the roller stamps after seeing Christy with them and I’ve been obsessed ever since. My most used one is probably the dotted one, but it is closely followed by a handwriting and a swirly dot one. Between them I have pretty much ALL my AJ pages covered for the last 4 or 5 months or so lol

  • Oh my goodness! That page you did with the woman in profile is amazing. It looks like it was done on fabric. Is that due in part to the power of the rolly dot? My favorite tool right now is my newly bought (thanks to you) stencils and an air can to spray copics.

  • I have dot stamps and other fun doodles so I use them. I do have a wheel that has different designs on it and i use that alot. But I recently removed all the rubber stamps form blocks, and I took the rubber off of the wheel. Now I dot have to roll it, I can just ink and go.

  • The “toy” I’m really loving right now is the sew easy…. After I figured out how to use it so my stitches didn’t look like crap. I don’t have a sewing machine, nor do I ever want one. The favorite head I have is the orange one that has the diamond cross thing.
