Here are five things I know to be true:
1. Painty Hands = Good Day
2. If I don't wear an apron, I will get paint or glue or something terrible on my clothes. Every. Single. Time. So I have a wide variety of aprons that I wear each and every day!
3. The best way to kick a bad mood to the curb is ten minutes in my art journal.
4. It is possible to have dirty fingers and clean design. (I hate it when people refer to my scrapbooking style as "messy." The word messy indicates a lack of thought and care.)
5. This cup holder is the smartest thing I ever put in my craft room. I haven't knocked over my drink or tried to drink my paint water since putting it in. It's a lifesaver.
Here are mine: 1. If I can’t create at all in a day I get moody. 2. Putting liquid containers in a tray has become a habit after knocking a bottle of blue ink over 3. I have come to always sit when I create to avoid terrible back aches 4.I always have the bin close at hand to put rubbish away at once instead of having it cover the table 5.Trying is the best way to move on.

You are so cute!! I have to wear an apron too- learned the hard way… OK. 1. Inspiration can be found almost anywhere 2.Sometimes just puttering, sorting, weeding out stuff in the studio is enough to keep me going. 3. Art becomes all I can think about if I haven’t been able to get any time in (like now- full on house renos to sell the house). 4.A kids area in my studio, with the ability to use almost anything as long as they ask first, is key to a. getting anything done, and b. inspiring the artists in them 5. The process is important, and it’s OK to throw stuff out if I don’t like it.

1. Spraying with mists or inks gives me a powerful feeling. 2. Making a mess in my spray box with stencils and then stamping the reverse side to make a new piece of paper makes my day. 3. If I cannot finish a project I do get very moody. The idea weighs heavy in my mind. 4. Cleaning up between projects is very important. 5. Die cut stuff that is not working – cut into small pieces the paper might just be successful!
Thanks!

I also get super messy when I create, so I can relate!
My five are : 1. It’s ok if I don’t love it (still working on this one)
2. Just because I can’t “draw” doesn’t mean I’m not an artist (also still working on this one)
3. Housework can wait
4. Always look for opportunities to teach someone else what I have learned. (this is my favorite)
5. Always follow your “what if” (learned from Donna Downey)

Thinking about my truths isa great exercise…thanks for the inspiration, Julie. Here goes: (1)If you “borrow” a published idea for your own use, give the author/artist credit. Teachinng a project designed by someone else as if it is your own it’s plagiarism. GET PERMISSION-GIVE CREDIT.(2) Inspiration can come from anywhere if you are closely observant. (3)I keep a small pad and pencil with me always to hold notes, brainstorms and observances. (4) I keep a camera or my iphone with me always to take tons of photos. At some point, a photo art theme will evolve. (5) In art, as in everything else, don’t sweat the little stuff.

2. Use what you have.
3. Utilize the road (originally stated by my ex husband when he was teaching me to drive but I later found this wisdom applies to many paths!).

1. Just keep moving those hands. Even if you feel unsure, keep going. Keep moving. Don’t spend too much time thinking about the next step.
2. Gesso’s got your back. You can always just gesso over the whole thing and start over.
3. Mistakes are the gateways to magical discoveries!
4. Focus on what you can do. Go in that direction.
5. Leave a little paint on your clothes, body, or hair so that later in the day when you see it you’ll be reminded of your happy place.

You said truth, so here it is.
1. I collect every color in a product line so I can put them in ROYGBIV order.
2. Even though I dislike purple, I will get one token dark shade of it.
3. It makes me happy to spend 24/7 creating alone in my art room, accomplishing nothing.
4. I’m not comfortable around people unless I am at a crop or art class.
5. I probably have an undiagnosed disorder but I’m happy and suspect other creative people also have it.

My 5 Artistic Truths:
1. 3:00am is my magic hour, I frequently wake up refreshed, mind in gear with creative ideas.
2. I don’t own a pair of pjs that don’t have an extra splash of color or stiff spot from paint or glue – see truth #1 (I don’t bother to dress for 3:00am creative jam sessions)
3. I need a blank slate before starting each project and that means I compulsively clean and put things away at the end of a project.
4. I can’t just work on one thing at a time, I always have anywhere from 2 to 6 things rotating on and off my main work space.
5. I can’t not create! (daily!!!)

love your drink holder!!! I need one. My 5: 1. Never, ever, ever say NEVER – every time I do, then I do just that thing (art, life, whatever). 2. Even if I just get 10 minutes of play time a day, I’m happier for it and have so many more ideas. 3. Like you, I have to wear an apron every time or something will splatter on me, but seeing yours, I realize I need prettier aprons. 4. Anyone can be creative. 5. I will NEVER, Ever, Never get a studio that I would be thrilled to have – all organized and fanciful. (see #1 – “and here’s to hoping“ she said with crossed fingers.

I love your journal pages… so well designed.
My truths?…. 1. No matter how often I tidy my desk will always be a mess when I’m working. 2. No matter how much I clean house, housework is relentless. 3. Being creative makes me happy. 4. The more brush mileage I do, the better I get. 5. Life is too short to waste any.

1. I’m happiest when I’m experimenting and I just let it take me where it wants to go instead of actually set out to create a project.
Don’t look any farther, that’s all I got!

Jukebox….3,4,5. “ditto”
1. If I don’t see lots of color evident in my studio when ive puchased new items, iI promptly rearrange or else I have a non-color panic attack.
2. My art is my life-partner. Only my artist single sisters “get” how happy I am with this conscious decision and un-lonely I feel when….go back to number 1!

Thanks for your post and your list. Here’s mine — but not about art yet. I feel to “green” to have truths… http://jessicasporn.blogspot.com/2012/06/inspiration.html

Three words: adult sippy cup. It keeps me from spilling coffee all over the art, and it keeps the cat from spilling wine on the keyboard.

Now I know how to solve my problem. A cup holder it is. I think I need a bigger apron too.

You know what, Julie? It has never occurred to my to use my cup holder at home! I’ve only used it at classes away from home. And yet I’ve dipped my brushes in diet coke more than once. Thanx foods the tip!

The five things I know for sure:
1. Working in my art room makes me happy
2. When I don’t put much thought into the process, I usually like the results best
3. The cat will always be my assistant by spilling the drink and stepping/sitting/laying on the paint pallet
4. Music is a must when creating
5. I’m addicted to your blog
And love your aprons btw.

My truths:
1. Unless you want your head bitten off do not speak or look at me until I have had my coffee. (Sad but true)
2. I have to buy one of those cup holders…. I dip brushes into my drinking water at least 1 time a day.
3. My art is best when I don’t worry about how it looks.
4. I am addicted to art/office supplies.
5. The messier I get, the more fun I have.

I use an apron too but I end up sitting on it and spilling paint on my clothes! Someday I will learn.
My 5 truths: 1. Artist-I struggle using that term for me. 2. I buy products to try something new and then don’t try it. I just found a small box of stuff that I forgot I had and forgot why I bought it! 3. Its easy to say please and thank you I wish people would use it more. 4.I’m trying to find my voice in art and struggling a lot. 5. I use my cup holder for tape runners and adhesives and I have drank my paint water! It was gross.
Thanks Julie for all your inspiration!
