If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, all the posts can be found here.  Please read this post first.  There is a flickr group for sharing right here.  Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day!  No need to finish anything or even like it.  If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post.  Thanks!

I've got some lovely guests lined up to share their art journaling process through a fast forward video.  Today's guest is Carolyn Dube.

Q: How long have you been art journaling?

A: There was no big bang and a clear start for my art journaling.  I have morphed from a traditional scrapbooker into an art journaler over the course of many years.  I began to see myself as an art journaler about 3 years ago.

Q: Why do you art journal?

A: Because it makes me happy.  I get to see into myself when I art journal & I get to pick myself up on the ugly days with my art journal.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in your art journal?

A: Make a mess.  I love the freedom of art journaling –I don’t like to line things up precisely so this is for me!  That freedom means I use whatever strikes my fancy at that  moment.

There is a more detailed post on Carolyn's blog about the notebook paper + gesso + spray ink technique seen in the video above and in the examples below.

Supplies:

I have linked to all of the supplies that I could find.  Here are the additional supplies Carolyn used: journal (old book), paper towel, notebook paper to die-cut, cardboard, and tacky glue.  The last item in the grid above (the Vagabond die cut machine) is the die cut machine that I own.  Carolyn didn't include the name of her die cut machine, so I just included the one that I like.  :)

Here is a good look at Carolyn's gorgeous page:

BelieveBegin500Wide

I love, love, love how Carolyn wrote in each of the spaces left by the stencil.  What do you love about this page and seeing her process?

Here is the linky list for you to show off your own art journaling from the week:

Thanks for stopping by!

About Carolyn:

I am (3×5) + 2+ (10-89) years old.  If you bother to figure it out, you have earned the knowledge of my age.

I am addicted to color.  Purple, lime green, and yellow as a color scheme for a room.  Enough said.

I am addicted to pestering my children.  They’re teenagers who keep me in line as much as I keep them in line.

I am addicted to blue water and warm sand.  Snorkeling and stalking beautiful fish is such a great way to relax.

I am a fan of outrageously unrealistic tv shows: Burn Notice, Stargate, Covert Affairs, The Finder, almost anything sci-fi.

I am addicted to Christmas.  We put up 7 full size trees every year.  I want more but I have to have some sense of control….

  • I am lucky enough to have the pleasure of knowing Carolyn in “real” life. She inspires me in her work all the time. Her videos give us all a peek into her creative process which always make me want to get up and make something! I, too, love how she did her writing within the design shapes. I also like the that the Gesso isn’t perfect and allows the spray to show through in different ways. The birds are the perfect final touch! Thank you Julie for letting the rest of the world get to see this very, very talented artist!

I only have art journal pages in a collage I’ve made for today’s post, hope you don’t mind that I’ve linked to that collage post instead of an art journal-blogpost-only.
    Have a wonderful weekend. 🙂
