If you're new to Art Journal Every Day, all the posts can be found here. Please read this post first. There is a flickr group for sharing right here. Remember, it's just ten minutes of nourishing your creative self every day! No need to finish anything or even like it. If you've done some art journaling this week and you've blogged about it, or put it on flickr, please leave a link in the linky list at the end of this post. Thanks!
On my recent trip to the West Coast I took my traveling art journal kit along.
And while I was on the plane, in my hotel room, and just generally waiting around I managed to squeeze in a bit of creative play.
For whatever reason my art journal is a bit less diary-ish and contains almost no journaling this time around. And that's okay. I try not to fight my creative impulses. I embrace them and let whatever is coursing through me spill onto the page.
If you did some art journaling this week and you'd like to share, please leave a link below (please link to a specific post or specific image rather than a general blog url or flickr stream – thanks):
Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. I'm looking for some "Art Journal Every Day" guest posters. If you like to make fast forward videos of you creating your pages and would like to be featured on this blog, send me an e-mail (balzerdesigns AT gmail DOT com).

Yay, at last I get to link up 🙂 I love your journal, especially the food page. Not sure mine counts as an art journal page as I’ve just been drawing what I wear each day to get me practising – feels like a kinda visual diary though 🙂

Every week I make a photo collage of my week, and then I post them at my blog with a list of gratitude. So Nr6 in the list is not only about art journaling but also about other stuff I am grateful for, like writing, photography, mail art, etc. I hope you don’t mind I’ve shared it anyways. 🙂
And beautiful water colors! Very playful. 🙂

Julie, I have a question for you. How did you apply color to the flower stencil? Is that water color? Because the colors don’t seem to run…or did you use pens? I love how each color stands out.

Hey Julie, just wanted to tell you that I am officially a “dirty girl”! This morning I got pulled over by the police because my van was too dirty! Now I can proudly wear the sticker you gave me! (I’m also not cleaning my stencils…as much!

Not to creep you out or anything but I recently had a dream with you in it! In my dream, my husband and I were visiting NYC and we arrived at our hotel and while I was ready for an adventure, my husband wanted to take a nap. I decided to visit the building across the street and when I entered I saw you on a ladder hanging one of your art pieces. Turned out you were opening your own gallery and were putting the finishing touches on it. I went up to you and told you I was a big fan and you were very gracious and even gave me a little gift bag from The Ink Pad. We had a great chat and we decided to go visit Donna Downey. We took an elevator, walked a couple of blocks and there we were in NC! (I once heard you both interviewed in a art journaling podcast). Anyhoo – weird dream but proof of how much I love what you do – (My husband likes to tease me about this dream since he is much more adventurous than I and way less likely than me to opt for a nap!)

I love your creative play. My introduced my special education adult students to art journaling and they are very excited. They want to start journaling, so I thought that I would make an art journal kit for them when they come to class on Fridays. (I have given Friday to be play/fun day since I work them so hard Mon-Thurs)
I want to place the kits in gallon size storage bags,so they can just pick up their bag and take it to the table. What do you suggest that I put in them? Should I start them out with 6×6 paper, etc?

I would be interested in doing a fast forward journal page video. My only question is how do you set up your camera? I’m trying to figure out the best angle and how to prop it up. The best would be hanging from the ceiling right over the page, but that’s not really feasible. Any suggestions?

You know your students best. In my opinion, simple materials are best for beginners. Think about what you would like to find in a bag of art journaling goodies. You can always add to the bag in subsequent classes. Best not to overwhelm people with too many choices. And yes, I think starting with smaller paper is a good idea! Good Luck!

To avoid hotel boredom (whenever I’m alone), I try to do some sketching. And I must say I’m not too shabby with it myself. Though, I haven’t tried painting in reality because I use Photoshop and Aftereffects. Anyway, I’m impressed by your craftsmanship – pretty creative, indeed.

I love these journal pages – I may have to copy the “Adventures in Arting” and the “Jane Eyre” pages in my art journal. And I don’t expect to ever do written journaling in mine – I’m not real big on putting my thoughts and feelings on paper for others to get (a self-defense mechanism from life). I just like the art aspect because it is a happy carefree journey for me.
