Welcome to Stencil-a-Palooza! Several days a week for the next month or so I'll be featuring one of my eighteen stencil designs for The Crafter's Workshop! Each post comes with a giveaway. Leave a comment answering the question-of-the-day and you might be the winner of that day's featured stencil in both 6×6 and 12×12! Comments will remain open on this post for seventy-two hours. People are always saying very nice things about my handwriting, so I knew that I had to include some handwritten templates. Meet TCW217 Trust your heart:
This is a mask, rather than a stencil. What's the difference? Generally with a stencil the design is in the empty spaces and with a mask, the mask is the design. Jaime (the owner of The Crafter's Workshop) and I went back and forth about whether it should be a mask or a stencil. I think we made the right choice.
I used the 12×12 version on this scrapbook page with a kind of moiré background:
I love how the title is the background and the embellishment for the page. Just a story, some color, and a true sentiment!
And here I used the 6×6 version on a 12×12 canvas:
After spreading white paint over the top of the mask, I outlined the words with black paint. Loving how it turned out!
You can see the sunprinted version of this stencil on the right side of my apron.
And now here's a quick and easy gesso resist technique to make an artsy canvas in no time at all!
And here's a closer peek at the canvas:
Don't forget that you can use just part of the template! I used just the word "heart" to create the background for this layout:
And I loved the way that the background turned out so much that I made another one with slightly brighter colors!
Not sure what I'm going to do with it. I might trim it down to 8.5×11 and frame it. I think it's super pretty "as is."

Your stencils are just my style, I love them. And which one I’d like more: a bunch of freehand butterflies. I know that there are a lot of butterflies stencil out there, but I don’t know one that have frehanded in various shapes and sizes. I loved the idea of Stencil Palooza!! Thank you for inspiring us!

Love the mask Julie! But then again I have been loving everything you have been doing since I found you. I would like a stencil that has a doodling curly-que design. Its hard to explain it in words but it is what I usually doodle when I am bored and waiting on something or listening to something.

These are all so pretty, love seeing all the different projects with them. I’m kinda new here still and not sure what stencils you have or elsewhere really. What I love though are circles, numbers, grids, leaves, trees, hearts of all kinds/shapes, pumpkins ummm think that’s it for now.

Found you just recently and have picked up a few of your stencils. I’ve so enjoyed seeing everything you do. Love the trust your heart projects here. Just delightful! I would also love to see a bare branch tree stencil. And how about a whimsical house (with windows, a door, chimney etc.) that you could fill in with text or color in different ways?

This is a great mask! When I chose this mask for my painted pocket journal in your class this year it foreshadowed a lot of personal process that came to pass (funny how the universe gives us what we need at certain times). For my custom stencil, positive words in other languages would be very interesting to me personally.

I love seeing all the ways you use one stencil, and especially liked the canvas gesso technique. I think having a stencil with different silhouettes of people would be cool – whole bodies, classic head silhouettes, etc. I’d also like some stencils with “retro” designs from different eras like the 50’s.

Hi Julie, I love your stencils and already have a few. Your projects with this stencil are gorgeous! I think a stencil I would like to see would be one of some cute embellished types of bird and/or owls. I’ve seen one with realistic birds, but not one with artistic birds.

I would love to have a cityscape stencil, and a suburban row of houses as a stencil. Ooo, and I like Bwheather’s idea for surf and wave stencils, too. Masculine tattoo feel maybe, rocks background that could be used with texture paste to look like rocks, flower background in a repeat lattice feel. Just more flower/flouirsh combo would make me happy too. Oh and of course more of your handwritting! Thanks for the chance to win

Picket fence, giant wings (different types), sail boat, row of houses, crowd of people, gears, wheels, circuit board. Spider web, MYO butterfly wings (with options for spots, outlines, stripes, etc.), concentric circles that are spaced apart for journaling in between, tic tac toe and trouble game board design, chutes and ladders design. I can’t remember what my original idea was… Light bulb, pistol, horse silhouette, gunslinger silhouette, jolly roger sign. Please stop me…

I like that TCW has them in 2 sizes. If I had to request though I’d love more journaling stencils, with diff types of lines to write on.

I don’t think there is a butterfly one – that would be lovely – one giant butterfly – and then another one with ones of various sizes strewn all over the page – flying upward & diagonally – that would be super-versatile for using portions only as well…

really like the 12×12 canvas with the 6×6 stencil. very cool. i would like a stencil sheet with a variety of skulls, skeletons, flames, hearts with wings, etc. most of the stencils of this type are too large to use for journaling or mixed media.
