I'm going to be in Houston, TX in a few weeks for a rep show (this is a place where store owners come to learn new skills and it is hosted by a rep group). And after the show I'll be driving to San Antonio, TX to teach a class at The Crafty Girls Workshop in San Antonio on October 17.
In this exciting mixed media class we’ll be painting fabric and then collaging it to create a unique quilt. You’ll be able to choose from four different images, or create your own! Not only will you learn some simple ways to paint up your own fabrics, but with this easy collage technique you’ll be able to “paint” with fabric to create new images! Students should be comfortable with a sewing machine. Knowledge of free motion stitching is helpful, but not required.
This summer I taught this class here in NYC at The City Quilter. And I was 100% sure that I had blogged about class, but when I went to link up the post…it wasn't there. So here are some photos from that class, to give you a sense of the flavor:
Class in San Antonio is on Monday, October 17 from 10am-5pm. Contact Anna to sign-up and for more details.
ETA: Here are the links un-pretty and easily accessible:

I am mesmerized by all the color (the sunset – oh my!). Thank goodness I kept my mom’s Elna after all these years! I still want to use your big flower stencil as a basis for a kitchen tablecloth so, now I can definitely add sewing to my creative mission. Five stars to all the ladies in the class above!

Am so disappointed. I just moved away from Texas. I would have so “hunted you down” if I were still there.

What beautiful collages! There is something about a handmade item with fabric that is so comforting.

I don’t recall seeing the NYC class quilts. They are awesome. I love yours with the newsprint flower! Synonymous with TX is FUN! The people, the place … it’s a great state! Hope you have a super class and that you get a chance to go to Gilley’s in Pasadena (a “burb” of Houston) and ride the bull! Yah-hee! 🙂

Julie, could you provide the basics (tutorial?) on painting on fabric? I’d love to know how to do it. Do you use a plain muslin to paint on? I live in Oregon so I can’t attend your class in Texas:)

Im sorry but I dont give away class content as it isnt fair to those who pay for it. However, my online class Its Sew Easy covers a myriad of painting on fabric situations. 🙂

Julie, the class looks great! I grew up in San Antonio, but I’ve been long gone for 16 years. Too bad for me!

I was one of the students that day — we had such a blast!….I have to say, though, painting on fabric is quite addictive.
