Last night was the first Art Journaling Club! We had such a good time! Or at least, I did! It was so great to have some familiar students and lots of new ones…and a man! This is the first time a man has taken one of my classes.
Paul was great – he's a watercolor-ist! In fact, everyone was great with lots of interesting stories and beautiful journals.
Zieke had lugged *the biggest* art journal I've ever seen with her! And it weighed a ton!
We talked a lot about the idea of disrupting or disturbing things.
Abbey took good care of us during class, fulfilling all of our shopping needs! 🙂
Karen has suffered through several classes at The Ink Pad with me and her unexpected landscape was so very cool!
People kept peering into the plate glass window of the store (see it above – the store was closed during class) leading to what I kept calling the "pet store puppy dog syndrome." They just stare at you and it makes you feel like a puppy dog in a pet store window whining, "Take me home! I'm fun!"
Sandy has been a student of mine at The City Quilter for about two years and she's super fantastic! I was so glad that she came over to The Ink Pad. I did a little "Talking Craft" interview with her! It was super noisy in the store, so please forgive all the ambient noise.
I couldn't find a blog for Sandy and her flickr stream is protected, so no links. But I just wanted to share that she's a delivery room nurse in real life and just such a warm and lovely person! Not to mention articulate. I love what she said about art at the end of the interview.

On my wish list, and I’m trying to take some friends with me!!! This session my Mom was in the City, but I’m planning on attending at least one future session!!!

Very cool! Also loved what Sandy said about art journaling being a way to “honor” all the little random thoughts one has during a day that don’t go anywhere else. Loved that!

Sheesh now I have Art Journaling Club envy – bit of a commute from CO, but I’m considering it. I also have Ink Pad store envy – that store looks like a grown up version of a candy store! All I have is mountains…sigh

awwwwwww, THAT looked like sooooo much fun. You’ve got to come to Kansas or Missouri (after the flooding of course) and teach a class…pretty pretty please. Or…. I have family in Rockland County which is only 36 miles from the city…..sigh… and from the pictures it looks like The Ink Pad is an AWESOME store. I love when a store is ram packed where one has to make several rounds to be sure you didn’t miss something. Big Sigh…..
Those journals looked awesome. You’ve inspired me to start one…. um…just started and I feel sooooo…. inadequate but I’ll keep plugging along. 🙂

Julie, I’m so, so glad you were in my class at CREATE. Otherwise, I may have never met you and found your blog! It has quickly become my favorite blog. I love waking up to see that you have posted! I am always energized and inspired. LOVE the journal pages! If I ever make it to NYC, I will be looking you up for a play date! LOL! And if you are ever in Phoenix, look me up!

As a new journalista I’m so happy I was there to get started on this amazing practice – it reminds me a lot of yoga, where self inquiry and expression are the priorities. I love using different watercolor papers in a variety of weights and surface treatments, so I brought in a few of each to see which one speaks to me. The unplanned landscape revealed itself on Khadi so my journal will definitely evolve from that work. As usual with the Ink Pad, I go in thinking my work will look a certain way, but I go home with pieces which truly exceed my expectations! Thank you Julie (QoE)

Julie, are you considering an on-line art-journaling class for those of us too far away to get to NY? Just a thought……

Enjoyed the interview with Sandy, which I knew if she has a blog. I always look forward each day to see what you have to show us. Thanks again for sharing all your talents with us. I just wish I lived closer so I could take some classes from you.

I loved seeing what you were doing with your students at the ink pad! I taught there maybe 8-10 years ago when I lived in CT. Does Anna own it, still? She might remember me… but anyway, I so loved seeing your class photos and I really liked the interview you did with your student Sandy, it was fantastic! thank you julie for all you do and all the inspiration you’ve given me. ; ^ ) lenna

Jealous much? YES! I would do anything to go to this. The Ink Pad is my absolute favourite stamp shop in the whole world (It was the highlight of my last trip to the US).
Looks like everyone had an awesome time.
