May Flaum is a multi-talented scrapbooker and she has just written a new book for F&W media called Scrapbook Workshop. It's available for pre-order on Amazon right now. Just $15.99 (which is a savings of $7 off the cover price)! I was delighted when May asked me to contribute to the book. And just about fell over when I saw the cover of the book.
On the cover of a book!
How epically cool is that?!
So the photo, journaling (typewritten on the yellow paper), big book page flower, and layers of stitched paper and washi tape is from one of the layouts I have in the book.
And now I have a stupid grin on my face.
I can't wait to walk into Barnes & Noble and pull my face off the shelf. Is that too nerdy for words or what?
Thanks for letting me share! 🙂

P.S. Martha Richardson made me super duper happy by being the very first person (besides me, of course) to post a piece of artwork she made with my stamps in the Balzer Designs flickr pool (it's gorgeous, so check it out)! Thank you, Martha!

And it’s a very CUTE picture, at that!
Congrats

Julie, congratulations! I have always liked that photo of you. I couldn’t figure out how to send you a private message so I hope you read this and take it for what it is worth. I know there are a lot of cancer stories out there. Survivors who just quietly go about their like, or loudly try to make each minute special. I do both. Most times I am okay with just quietly sitting at my table making my scrapbooks and journals. Then there are other times I want to roar like a bear and say pay attention to what goes on in your life. Make every moment count.
Where do you fit in, even though we will never meet? I found your blog several months ago. I have only had a computer since September when my friends did a fund raiser for me so I could have one. I started reading it every day and then finally subscribed. I watch all your videos. I sent one to my friend Karen and told her I loved to watch you work, the same way I love to watch her paint. There is just something so fun in the process. She sent an email back saying that watching you reminded her of me. I was a surface designer and fabric dyer for almost twenty years before I got sick. It took me a life time to learn what I did and I was still learning and experimenting.
Cancer took all that away. I used to live in Colorado and climb mountains. Now I live with my sister in Wisconsin and walk with a walker or get pushed in a wheel chair. The cancer won’t kill me any longer, but the after math of the chemo is doing the job in slow, painful steps.
So why this story? I appreciate anyone who makes something that will allow me to be creative just one more day. Your videos provide the inspiration. Your stamps would replace abilities I have lost. I will get them one by one and enjoy them and what they will allow me to do. I love the process of adding colorants and elements to paper, transferring that love from cloth. My mind still works just fine, even as my body is failing. It is so good to see a younger person with the same love for design that I nurtured for a lifetime. Through marriage, divorce, raising my daughter, taking care of my grand daughter, having everything and losing it all. To a nine year wrestle with an enemy I didn’t ask for or invite into my life. I still love design. Happy someone is carrying on the tradition.
Regards, Theresa

Julie – congrats and I too love that picture of you. I am working on something now with your stamps. The other items I made do not meet flickr group quality in other words would not make your stamps look as fabulous as they are-:)
Theresa big hugs. I have RA and I LOVE working with Julie’s stamps! I reach for them all the time but when my hands are sore they are a huge help! SO enjoy purchasing them.

You are officially a COVER GIRL Julie — how awesome is that?!! On my Amazon wish list too. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!!
Theresa, it’s wonderful that you found Julie. She does so much for so many, without being aware of how huge her impact is. Stay strong and keep on creating Theresa. Cancer sucks. As someone who’s hair has been growing back for about 7 months now, and as someone who was at a dear friend’s funeral 2 weeks ago, I HATE cancer. Hate it. It robs so many of so much. I’m glad that you shared your story here and that you’ve not let that enemy defeat you.

Theresa: Thank you for taking the time to share your story. Im so glad that art has carried you through this terrible illness. Your body is just one part of who you are. Nothing can take away your artistic soul. I know that so many people will read your comment and be inspired by your courage in the face of adversity. Wishing you the very best.
