I was cleaning up my studio this weekend and came across the ghosts of projects past. You know, the leftover bits and bobs, the piles of fabric and paper I pulled for various projects and never put away. I'm pretty ruthless about throwing things away, but one thing I just could not get rid of was these edges I had cut away…
…from this quilt…
…in order to square it up.
I zig zagged the edges together.
And then trimmed them down to 2.5×3.5 (ATC or Artist Trading Card size). I had a few pieces that weren't quite large enough for ATCs…
…so I took those pieces and zigzagged them together and then trimmed them down to ATC size. Once I had all of my 2.5×3.5" pieces, I experimented with various stitches to seal the edges.
I added some text and my fabulous new ATCs were born!
I adore projects made from things that would otherwise be discarded, don't you?

Oh Julie, these are so cool! Did you stitch the black circles, it looks awesome and a bit complicated. Now I want to sit by the sewing machine too, not go to work!

Yes I do love the idea! I was at a wonderful Lynne Perrella workshop last weekend, and we made a few large projects. At home I trimmed them to square up the sides and have been having fun using the scraps to make tags and small backgrounds.
I think I’ll do some ATCs next. Thanks for the idea!

what will you do with them? I made some for an art therapy exchange last year, then had to develop postcards out of most [had my sizes wrong], but have some remaining. What do people do with these when theyre made? havent gotten into them before…
